1968 Hardtop Mustang?
I have a stock 1968 hardtop mustang and was thinking about adding a hood scoop, should i do it. I was also thinking about giving it a new paint job, it sat about a year while i was in Iraq, and it need some touch up. What would be a good color to paint it while keeping it a stock color. I was thinking about a black with white pinstripes.
If the car is in very nice, purely stock condition, the hood scoop will probably reduce the car's value. IF you change color on a paint job, then the paint job becomes much more involved. You'll need to do a lot more stripping/disassembly of the car to get to all the painted areas. Otherwise the color change will be obvious when the hood, trunk, and doors are opened. AND, again, changing the color from stock will probably decrease it's value. There's a stamped metal plate under the hood with all the car's build codes (options and paint color). If it doesn't agree, then it'll be worth less $$ to a real collector.
THAT said; it's your car and you can do whatever makes you happy. there's lots of nicely done modified cars out there. If you haven't already, I'd find a local chapter of a National Mustang club and get advice there on what works and what doesn't.
I had the same dilemma years ago with a very nice '67 GTO. I ended up selling the car before chopping it for wheel tubs.......
I'm glad I didn't start cutting on the car, but I REALLY wish I had kept it now.
