American Graffiti (Collector's Edition) List Price: $14.98 Sale Price: $8.55 |
|
Here's how critic Roger Ebert described the unique and lasting value of George Lucas's 1973 box-office hit, American Graffiti: "[It's] not only a great movie but a brilliant work of historical fiction; no sociological treatise could duplicate the movie's success in remembering exactly how it was to be alive at that cultural instant." The time to which Ebert and the film refers is the summer of 1962, and American Graffiti captures the look, feel, and sound of that era by chronicling one memorable night in the lives of several young Californians on the cusp of adulthood. (In essence, Lucas was making a semiautobiographical tribute to his own days as a hot-rod cruiser, and the film's phenomenal success paved the way for Star Wars.) The action is propelled by the music of Wolfman Jack's rock & roll radio show--a soundtrack of pop hits that would become as popular as the film itself. As Lucas develops several character subplots, American Graffiti becomes a flawless time capsule of meticulously re-created memory, as authentic as a documentary and vividly realized through innovative use of cinematography and sound. The once-in-a-lifetime ensemble cast members inhabit their roles so fully that they don't seem like actors at all, comprising a who's who of performers--some of whom went on to stellar careers--including Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss, Harrison Ford, Cindy Williams, Mackenzie Phillips, Charles Martin Smith, Candy Clark, and Paul Le Mat. A true American classic, the film ranks No. 77 on the American Film Institute's list of all-time greatest American movies. --Jeff Shannon Here's how critic Roger Ebert described the unique and lasting value of George Lucas's 1973 box-office hit, American Graffiti: "[It's] not only a great movie but a brilliant work of historical fiction; no sociological treatise could duplicate the movie's success in remembering exactly how it was to be alive at that cultural instant." The Fast and the Furious List Price: $14.98 Sale Price: $6.45 |
|
A guilty pleasure with excess horsepower, The Fast and the Furious efficiently combines time-honored male fantasies (hot cars, hot women, hot action) into a vacuous plot of crystalline purity. It's trash, but it's fun trash, in which a hotshot Los Angeles cop named Brian (Paul Walker) infiltrates a gang of street racers suspected of fencing stolen goods from hijacked trucks. The gang leader is Dom (Vin Diesel), ex-con and reigning king of the street racers, who lives for those 10 seconds of freedom when his high-performance "rice rocket" (a highly modified Asian import) hurtles toward another quarter-mile victory. Racing is street theater for a lawless youth subculture, and Dom is a star behind the wheel--charismatic, dangerous, and protective toward his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster), who's attracted to Brian as the newest member of Dom's car-crazy team. Director Rob Cohen treats this like Roman tragedy for MTV junkies, pushing every scene to adrenaline-pumping extremes; when his camera isn't caressing a spectrum of nitrous oxide-enhanced dream machines, it's ogling countless slim 'n' sexy race babes. The undercover-cop scenario cheaply borrows the split-loyalty theme perfected in Donnie Brasco; a rival Asian gang adds mystery and menace; and digital trickery is cleverly employed to explore the fuel-injected innards of the day-glo racecars. It's about as substantial as a perfume ad, but just as alluring, and for heavy-metal maniacs of any age, Diesel's superblown '69 Charger proves that Detroit muscle never goes out of style. --Jeff Shannon Borrowing the title of the '50s AIP drive-in fave, this high-energy actioner stars Paul Walker as an undercover cop who works his way into a group of thrill-seeking road racers led by mechanic Vin Diesel, in hopes of finding a tie to a truck-hijacking ring. But when Walker gets caught up in the dangerous world of wild wheels, his superiors begin questioning his investigative moves. Rick Yune, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez also star. 107 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1; Subtitles: English (SDH); music videos; "making of" documentary; featurette; storyboard comparison; theatrical trailer; video game demo; audio commentary; deleted scenes. |
Here are some more information for Universal Hot Rod:

What's the best way to be able to tell the size of your fish? It's a tape measure, right. Measuring how large your catch is probably the most effective way to know how large your fish actually is. I know for me , if you say "I caught a 14 inch Rainbow", I know exactly what you're referring to. To me this means that measuring your catch in inches is a universal barometer of how large your fish is.
Sure, there are going to be variations as far as the weight of your catch goes, but for the most part measuring your catch in inches gives everyone a great idea of the size of your fish. So we carry tape measures with us in our tackle boxes, or if we're waders we carry small tape measures in our fishing vests. Carrying a tape measure has worked fine for me for many years, it's simply that every time I need to measure a fish, my tape measure is never where I thought I put it, and I end up having to rifle through my fishing vest like some sort of coked up mail sorter trying to find it.
This scenario always drove me nuts, and it also seemed like about half the time my tape measure had some how gotten wet and rusted almost completely shut. I was complaining to a fishing buddy of mine about this problem one day, when he said, "I know, I wish there were a better way to carry your tape measure". Then something hit me out of the blue.
Why the heck couldn't there be a ruler on my fishing rod, so that I always had it with me when I was fishing? To me this made complete and total sense, so I figured out a way to due it. After much trial and error, the rod ruler was born. Made out of the same material as boat stickers, the rod ruler was an ingenious idea. As I began to put it into action, I liked it even more. Today, I have a rod ruler on every one of my fishing rods so that whenever I'm fishing, I always know exactly where my tape measure is.
Gone are the days of having to rifle through my fishing vest or tackle box to try to find my tape measure in order to measure my catch. All thanks to this ingenious measuring device for anglers. Give one a shot and find out for yourself that rod rulers are the most efficient and effective way to measure your fish.

I have a 2001 Lincoln LSV8 and want to buy exhaust. I'm looking at the Borla "Universal Hot Rod" System.?
Is this a good system for the car? Sound, Performance, Quality, Price?
I just put Borla's on my 88. Price is way high, but quality is extremely good. Performance is premium. Sound on my 5 litre I would say is fair, but Borla gets along very well with the new modular OHC motors so in your case I would give them a high rating.
