Having spent over 20 years as a commercial helicopter pilot the author has the following observations to make:

The first time I ever flew a helicopter I thought to God I was trying to stir a cake.

The second time I flew a helicopter I was convinced I was stirring a cake. The helicopter seemed to have a mind of its own because no matter what you did on the controls it took a helicopter about a second and a quarter to make up its mind that your command on the controls is what you really wanted. This is called a time the lag common to all helicopters. You don't know how long a second and quarter is until you've flown a helicopter.

We were at about 1000 feet and my instructor turned to me and said, "Here you take the controls I'm sick of flying." I quickly grabbed the controls as the nose of the helicopter was heading toward the ground, so I pulled back on the cyclic stick; nothing happened, so then I pulled even further back on the stick. All of a sudden the helicopter having a mind of its own decided I really wanted the nose to go up, so the nose went up until the helicopter was almost pointing straight up into the heavens. At this point I pushed forward on the cyclic stick. This is the stick used to steer a helicopter. The nose kept going up into the wild blue yonder, I panicked as the nose kept going up, and shoved the cyclic stick even further away from me to make the nose go down. All of a sudden down went the nose straight toward the ground, with that I pulled back on the stick. The nose kept going toward the ground. I pulled back on the stick, and the nose continued going toward the ground, so I pulled the stick even further. All of a sudden the nose started rising again toward the heavens.

Meanwhile my fellow passenger who was supposed to be my instructor was sitting over in his seat laughing his head off. He wouldn't tell me what was wrong all he did was to keep laughing, and laughing. His laughter made me mad, so I decided that I'd have to dope the thing out all by myself. The instructor was just sitting in his seat convulsed with laughter. For the next 60 miles by working with the rudder pedals I was able to keep the course of the helicopter reasonably straight, but I continued flying like a porpoise, up-and-down while reciting a whole litany of the traits both common to the helicopter and my instructor as well as some comments about their habits and ancestry. Meanwhile the instructor was sitting in his seat with howling laughter.

After flying all over the sky for about an hour I finally managed to get the helicopter to fly on the straight and level. I probably learned more about flying a helicopter in that one hour then I learned in all the rest of my training flights.

As we approached our destination the instructor took over the controls again and landed the helicopter. Then he finally told me why he would not take the controls back form me; because he wanted me to gain my own confidence of the helicopter. He felt that had he taken the controls back I would never fly a helicopter again. He was right!

Flying a helicopter is a much different proposition than flying an airplane. With an airplane you can set up the trim tabs and the airplane will pretty much fly itself. A helicopter on the other hand will fly the pilot. It is much more difficult to fly a helicopter than an airplane because it takes an entirely different set of skills. The only way you can learn these skills is by experience.

The helicopter has more controls than an airplane. The collective stick you hold in your left hand, and use it to make a helicopter to go up and down by pulling up or pushing down on the stick. This actually changes the pitch of the main rotor blades by changing the amount of bight they have on the air. The same stick also controls the throttle that is like a motorcycle throttle that you operate by twisting. The starter button is often on the very tip of the stick and engages the starter when you push it down. The cyclic stick controls the attitude of the helicopter; or more specifically the attitude of the main rotor. The final control that you use is the rudders. They control the direction in which the helicopter flies. These controls are on the floor towards the front of the cabin, and they are operated by your feet. They actually operate the pitch of the propeller that is at the rear of the helicopter; this is actually called the tail rotor.

Now we have explained what happened when I first started flying a helicopter, and the controls that you have to use to fly a one.

Wow! I really like this netbook. I had no problem following the instructions in the installation manual and battery charger for the first time. The rest of the process was simple, because the operating system has brought me the steps. I absolutely believe this is the way to go if you need computing power on the move, but not all the features of notebooks full. Its great for reading e-mail, word processing alone, and, of course, talk to your grandchildren built-in webcam. Screen for its size, is very clear and I am considering buying a external DVD drive for him, so I or my grandchildren to watch movies anywhere! I particularly liked the "plug N play 'USB ports, and how the operating system detects new devices that connect without having to reboot. In six hours of battery life is more than satisfied my needs. A framework, continues to drop the price of Amazon, which makes it even more incredible deal. Seriously, if you have more money, this is a great netbook purchase.

When you need a little PC, but not a lot of PC

I've had the opportunity to try notebooks before and have been unhappy with the little screen, little keyboard, and "cheap" toy feel. However, when given the chance to review the eCafe, I jumped on it. I'm a Mac user, but sometimes need a PC for work. That's where this comes in really handy.

The main reason I've needed a PC was so that I could do some remote work which required a PC. I'm happy to report that this netbook works great for that. Recently, a friend needed to use his printer at my house and we made it work most easily by using this PC. I've taken this PC to a couple of trade shows and it was all I needed. It is smaller and a little lighter than my 13" macbook and I was able to slip it into a little messenger bag. I have not tried to use it for heavy computing...just emails and web surfing. But, as an FYI, it doesn't meet the specs for online games such as World of Warcraft.

I had a little trouble getting the battery in correctly, but after a couple of tries, it is now working fine. I think the blue design with the bamboo is cute and the keyboard is a little better than other netbooks that I've tried. The netbook is about 10.75 inches wide by 7.5 and the screen is about 8.75 by 5 inches which is 10" on the diagonal. I haven't tried this one out yet, but I've also found netbooks great to take as a computer to show a presentation on when you have to bring your own projector and laptop.

I'm giving this 5 stars, because I think it is a good netbook. I'm not giving it 5 stars as a full powered computer. So for when you need a little PC, but not a lot of PC, the eCafe may be the machine for you.

My First Netbook!

This is my first netbook, and so far I love it! I don't have anything to compare it with, but I have looked at other netbooks online and in stores, and the eCafe seems on par with other brands on the market right now in terms of processor speed, ram, screen size etc. One noticeable stand-out feature of the eCafe is the 250GB hard drive, which seems very generous by current standards. Here's my comprehensive look at the eCafe by Hercules:

BOX CONTENTS:
* eCafe netbook
* 6-cell long life battery
* User Manual
* Quick Start sheet
* Battery charger (100-240 V, 50/60 Hz)
* Power cable for US
* Power cable for Europe

The addition of a power cable for use in Europe is a nice touch for travelers. The 46-page printed User's Manual is a welcomed changed from a .pdf on the hard drive, however, I found half of it was on how to use the various components of OpenOffice, rather than important things like upgrading your RAM. One important thing it does tell you is how to restore the eCafe to factory state, should you need to do this in the future.

UNDER THE HOOD:
* Intel Atom N270 CPU @ 1.6gHz
* 1GB DDR2 RAM
* Toshiba MK2555GSX 250GB HDD @ 5400 rpm (+50GB online storage)
* Intel 945 Express graphics with built-in sound
* 802.11n (backward compatible with b/g WiFi networks)
* Realtek PCIe FE 10/100 Ethernet port
* 10.1" backlit LCD screen with native resolution of 1024 x 600
* 6-cell 4400 mAh Lithium rechargeable battery (for 6+ hours unplugged)

These specs are on par with current competitor models, with possibly the exception of the larger hard drive. The Wireless N is great for connecting at faster speeds where available. The long life 6-cell battery, fully charged, reported almost 7 hours of charge time to me, although as with regular laptops, this varies depending on your usage.

HARDWARE FEATURES:
* 82-key keyboard with Synaptics 2-button touchpad
* 0.3 megapixel webcam with built-in microphone
* three USB 2.0 ports
* Multi-format card reader (SD, SDHC, MMC, MS)
* VGA output
* jacks for external headphones and microphone
* Kensington Lock
* weights 1.4 kg (about 3 lbs) with battery installed
* dimensions: 274 x 195 x 32 mm (10.8 x 7.7 x 1.25 inches)

The 6-cell battery accounts for at least half the weight of the netbook. The keyboard is really nice, and I love the chiclet-style keys. They have a nice feel to them, and while only 88% the size of a standard keyboard, I found adapting was not that difficult. At just 0.3 megapixels, the built-in webcam is something you might think is rubbish, but does a surprisingly good job for face-to-face calls with Skype. The multi-format card reader reads current popular storage cards, so it makes the eCafe a great companion to a digital camera while on vacation. On the right side of the eCafe is a conveniently located USB port for a mouse, leaving the other two USB ports on the left side free for thumb drives, external DVD drive, and other USB peripherals. Nicely designed.

INCLUDED SOFTWARE:
* Windows 7 Starter Edition (32-bit)
* preloaded eCafe software: Update Manager, Email Center, Web Cam Station, Connect
* preloaded OpenOffice software
* ready-to-install Avast! Anti-Virus Home Edition

Windows 7 Starter (ie: Window 7 Gimped Version) offers basic Windows 7 functionality, with an option for a paid upgrade. It runs better than you might expect, but lacks the bells and whistles like Aero, and even the basic ability to change your desktop image (although with the use of 3rd-party programs, the latter is possible). The eCafe-brand software makes everyday tasks quick and easy. Email Center is probably the easiest-to-set-up email program I have ever used. Just enter your email address and it will connect to your ISP to retrieve POP and SMTP settings automatically. Once you do this, the Email Center runs whenever you start the eCafe and automatically checks for new email. You can adjust the setting if you like, but I personally like the automatic features. The Connect program makes finding and connection to WiFi hotspots quick and painless. Web Cam Station is where you configure your webcam for use with MS Messenger, Skype, or other similar conferencing software. I have used OpenOffice as a free alternative to MS OFFICE for a number of years now, and I planned to install it on the eCafe. It was a nice surprise that it was pre-installed. OO includes a word processor, spreadsheet, photo show, etc, and is compatible/interchangeable with MS OFFICE. The version of OO included with the eCafe is v3.1; the current version (at the time of this review) is v3.2, so make sure you upgrade. I did not install the Avast! Anti-Virus software, rather my own Trend Micro Internet Security 2010.

OTHER IMPRESSIONS:
* The power button is located on the left-hand spine of the eCafe. It glows white when powered on. :D
* There is no lid catch, just a stiff hinge that, while new, requires two hands and some gentle prying to open.
* I ran the Windows Experience Index and received an overall rating was: 2.0
* The eCafe immediately found my home router, and I had wireless access just as soon as entered my password.
* The lid of the eCafe is a nice dusky blue color, with silhouetted bamboo design down one side and the eCafe logo in the center. The keyboard is white, the interior surface is silver and gray, while the sides and underside are black. Overall, it's a distinctive-looking netbook, very nice.

CONCLUSION:
French manufacturer Guillemot is best known for computer and game console peripherals under the brand names of Hercules and Thrustmaster. From reading the eCafe website, I found that this is actually their second generation Hercules netbook (previous versions running Windows XP or Linux). While I do not own another netbook with which to compare it, I really like the eCafe EC-1000W for its size, speed, ease of use, features, and aesthetics. I would definitely recommend anyone in the market for a netbook to consider the eCafe.

I need to install a push button starter on a 2002 Chevy Impala, how to do so?

I recently been interested in installing a push button starter on this car. I got the passlock 2 bypass module, and a viper 5901 remote starter installed. Now, I want the start/stop push button starter similar to that in the nissan vehicles. Someone instruct me on how to do so. If you do not know don't waste my time. I prefer experienced answers. Thanks.
