When Arthur C. Clarke penned the modern classic "2001, A Space Odyssey," he surely had no idea that just years after his work was published life would truly imitate his work of literary art. 2001 silverado won't start?
4.3 engine, 2001 silverado. fuel pump will not run. checked relay in fuse panel and found it to be working. engine will try to run if i spray carb cleaner into throttle body, so lack of fuel is definitely problem. fuel filter was replaced recently so I dont suspect a prob there. checked for power in the plug where wiring harness connects to fuel pump, and it does have power, so I replaced the fuel pump, and it still will not run. Two questions: A-should there be 12 volts on both of the plugs that connect to the fuel pump, or would one of them have less? (one plug powers the pump itself, and I assume the other powers the sending unit.) B- what do I check next since a new fuel pump did not correct the problem?
Measure fuel pressure with the key in the on position. Also, turn the key to the on pos. and listen for a slight humming coming from the fuel tank, no hum, fuel pump, hum, pump is working.
