What exactly is the Unichip and how does it compare to other performance chips?
I had to answer this question often during almost two decades of installing countless Unichips and tuning hundreds of vehicles.
It will take a manual filled with technical jargon to adequately explain all the advantages of the Unichip, so let me only shed some light on a few key point in the hope to not bore you too much, but rather sway you my way, which is of course, the Unichip way.
The Unichip is a sophisticated, piggy back computer that works in harmony with your vehicle's factory computer. It electronically resides between your car's ECU and engine, giving you full control over your vehicle's engine management system. The Unichip does not alter your vehicle's factory engine management control unit in any way.
The Unichip delivers torque gain and increased power across the entire RPM range. Power gains up to 13 % is common in normal aspirated vehicles and in turbo vehicles a 30% gain as measured by an accurate chassis dynamo-meter can be expected. It is however difficult to predict exact power gain because it is influenced by the design and condition of the engine and the factory calibration of the engine control unit. That said, the Unichip is far more advanced than "generic plug-in performance chips" and it delivers the most personalised power result every time.
Fuel economy is at the top of car manufacturers priority lists these days. However, even in this rat race for best fuel economy the Unichip stands it's ground. The Unichip will almost always improve fuel economy in vehicles with even the slightest modification such as an aftermarket air intake. This is especially true and more obvious in older and highly modified vehicles. We receive frequent testimonies from customers about increased fuel economy after installing the Unichip.
A major advantage of Unichip is that it works in harmony with the factory ECU to enhance and unleash the best possible performance result without compromising engine durability. Unichip is loaded with an operating system and program which enables it to correctly communicate with your vehicle's ECU without making physical, electrical, or electronic changes to the factory computer.
The Unichip is a universally applicable module designed to work in virtually any vehicle. Most EFI cars, whether normally aspirated, turbocharged or supercharged, respond extremely well to Unichip enhancement. It is individually programmable and fully adjustable to cater to exhaust headers, cat back exhaust systems, high flow air cleaners, performance cam shafts, or larger turbochargers and inter coolers.
For over a decade the Unichip has been tested and proven on the street, racetrack, and off-road.
So in the end, despite it's many competitors, I still take my hat off to the Unichip, and I will probably keep tuning all sorts of vehicles with the Unichip for a few more decades.

Performance Chip: Tweaking the Mercedes Power Train
German automaker Mercedes-Benz is among the major movers in the car industry. Backed by its campaign in the race circuit, from the Paris to Rouen tour circa 1890 to the Formula One series, Mercedes-Benz is often associated with the vaunted supercars that have since come out of its production shop. Among these are the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, which stands for “super light racing,” and the 1996 Mercedes-Benz model that the company has developed with car modification expert RENNTech, billed as the world’s fastest sedan. But, since Mercedes-Benz has diverse markets, even its marquee models are rolled out of the shop set up for average driver expectations and standard driving conditions.
Since the race specs of the Mercedes-Benz have little use in typical drive applications, the car’s engine is tuned for street use. However, this does not mean that Mercedes-Benz engines are letdowns. In most cases, the engine is simply re-tuned. Engine tuning is the process of streamlining engine operations toward its maximum power output. It generally involves the delivery of air and fuel into the combustion chamber, and the timing of the spark that lights up the burn material. As both of these engine operations are directed by the Mercedes-Benz electronic control unit, tweaking the delivery and spark timing systems simply involves the replacement of the stock fitted ECU chip.
The ECU chip contains the engine’s lookup tables, which keeps the required engine operation input in a given drive application. When you rev up the Mercedes-Benz, the car’s ECU measure the values gathered by a network of car sensors, like the oxygen sensor, air mass meter, etc. The ECU chip then feeds the ECU with information on the appropriate fuel injection rate based on these values. By replacing the ECU chip with a performance chip, the lookup tables can be optimized to extract the maximum amount of horsepower and torque from the Mercedes-Benz.
The performance chip equips the Mercedes-Benz with a streamlined engine operation. During full throttle drives, for example, the performance chip increases fuel injection in response to the rush of air in the cold air intake system. Since an air to fuel mixture follows a set ratio, a rush of air can disarm the power production. More air consequently can accommodate more amount of fuel. The performance chip tunes the lookup tables in the ECU toward increased production output.
In addition, the spark timing may also be altered to harness more horsepower. A spark that is generated during an appropriate time boosts power production and prevents fuel waste. Engine misfire, on the other hand, doesn't just waste fuel: it may also result in engine damage, like busted HT leads, fume buildup in the exhaust system, etc. Unlike car manufacturers, who place emphasis on issues like reliability, mileage and emissions control, most manufacturers of performance chips utilize more aggressive settings in the fuel and spark timing maps of their performance chips to further tweak the engine.
The Mercedes performance chip is a plug-and-operate part of an ECU. It requires no car modifications, which often include the tedious task of changing carburetor jets and distribution curves.

What do I need to do to get my car ready for a turbo?
I have a 1995 Neon Sport. Right now it has a Trendgear 4" muffler, 10mm wires, AEM intake, ACR racing chip, and an upgraded ECU for performance. The exterior is for the most part done with a custom full body kit, rims, spoiler, tint, and custom paint, the only thing really left to do is underglow and banners. Interior is done too with custom gages, NX racing seats, short shifter, Pioneer deck/ 6x 9s/ duel subwoofer, and some interior neon. I need a list of things to do so i dont hurt my engine (2.0 DOCH). might want to look for a wrecked SRT 4 neon. thats way your internals in the engine will be stronger than that engine you have now. a turbo puts alot of stress on the internals and if it isnt beefed up. you will break something sooner or later. plus you get everythig you need for the turbo swap. the engine turbo wastegate and the wireing harness and the computer. plus you can use the brakes and so on and make a sleeper car and have fun with other cars that dont know its a srt-4 neon in a neon sport body lol.
