Audemars Piguet

What would this "futuristic" looking specimen be?
Last year, I found this specimen in my swimming pool. I am pretty sure it was some kind of insect, but I'm not sure. It looked like it was some prehistoric bug, but looked like it came from the future, because it looked as if it was consisted of like stainless steel. I know, weird. It looked like it consisted of stainless steel and it was kinda clearish, like glass. I was oval shaped, about half an inch long, and movedthrought the water with 2 tentacle thingies. It seriously looked like some alien bug, and am very curious as to what it is. If you know, could you also post a link to pictures? thanks.

There are two types of beetles that fit your description that are found in swimming pools in the summer. Back swimmers and water boatmen. You can tell them apart by the location of the swimming legs. But when you pick them up to check out the position of the legs the backswimmers bite so you do not need to know what the leg difference is. Water Boatmen feed on algae and other aquatic organisms while Backswimmers are predaceous, that is why they bite.
Both beetles fly, that is how they find their way into our pools. They also breath air so they must come to the surface to breath. But they carry a bubble of air down with them so they have a silver appearance when under water. Back swimmers are so named because they swim upside down.
