Every car manufacturer has a logo and some have become more famous than others. Many have changed little since they were first designed and some are more recent than you may think, no matter, drivers and manufacturers usually want their logo to be instantly recognisable, and usually they appear at the front and at the back of a car.

Most people, even if they don't recognise the actual model of a car know the make by the car logo, which also may be known as a "marquee". The car marquee that is probably known best throughout the world is the Ford logo which has not changed much for over 100 years and is simply a stylized version of the Ford name.

Chrysler's first logo was in 1925 and although it changed over time, the original was bought back in 1994 when the company merged with Daimler Benz in 1998 silver wings were added. The separation of Chrysler from Daimler-Benz saw the company revert back to its pentangle origins. Dodge first started to use the logo with the rams head on it during the 1930's and its designer, Avard Fairhead came up with the marquee as a result of his inspiration from the art deco world, however the rams head is now being removed from the company branding and a stylized "Dodge" will be used instead.

The logo used by Buick came from a coat of arm from the Buick family who were originally from Scotland. The logo has been altered several times and in 1969 was altered to having three shields to reflect the three models that Buick had in production at that time.

The Corvette logo has also been updated over time but still is similar to the first one designed in 1953. It has two features, a Chevrolet bow tie logo and a fleur de lis. Both were originally chosen for their French origins, which the marketing teams used to capitalize on Louis Chevrolet's French-sounding name and association with European design and luxury - in this, like much in marketing, it was misleading as Chevrolet's family originates from Switzerland!

Bugatti has two logos; EB (the "E" is is actually represented backward) and a simple red oval shape with bold white letters of the name "Bugatti". The two letters come from the founder of the company Ettore A I Bugatti. Cadillac used the family crest of the man who founded Detroit surplanted with a crown. The logo has become increasingly stylized and almost unrecognizable as a coat of arms and the crown has been lost since the 1950's. Pontiac has a simple arrowhead as its logo which was introduced in 1957, however before that they use as an Indian Chief head with feather regalia as the marque. The arrowhead is now referred to as the "Dart", as association with Native American Indians has been sought to be minimized - a sign of changing times and attitudes.

The British luxury manufacturer, The Jaguar Company, was formed in 1945 and used the pouncing Jaguar as its logo which has remained unchanged, however in their home country of the UK, the cars cannot be sold with the hood ornament as these have been banned due to concerns over injuries to pedestrians. The famous Bentley Company, also from the UK, have a simple capital B and wings on each side which represent speed.

Ferrari first used the prancing horse as its logo on its racing cars in the 1920's with GT models have a rectangular badge (GT stands for Gran Turismo or Grand Tourer). Race team cars have a shield logo containing the letters "SF". The design of the horse came from a WWI pilot who painted the side of his plane with it, believing it would give good luck - for him it did and he survived the war.

All cars, whatever the make or logo, cost good money and they need looking after and protecting. Whether a car is garaged or not it's wise to protect your car with a car cover. Try to get a custom car cover, which will ensure that it fits perfectly. If your car is kept outdoors purchase a heavier type of cover. It will protect it from the rain and sun. Get one with theft protection.

Even if your car is inside in a garage, you should protect your car with a lightweight cover. This keeps out the dust and means that when you come to use your car it will be in pristine condition. Ultimately a car cover represents a good investment in maintaining and protecting your pride and joy.

Chevrolet Impala Ss Ready for Nascar 2007 Season

What's new for GM Racing? Well, aside from manufacturing auto parts like GM tail light guards for their race cars, GM also got something new for the motor sports industry. The 2007 season of the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series is an important event for GM Racing team for them to unveil a brand new racing machine and an all-new engine. GM will make the NASCAR debut of the Chevrolet Impala SS "Car of Tomorrow" along with R07 small-block V-8 racing engine. Along with the debut of the Chevrolet Impala SS, GM also announced their latest development in testing vehicle aerodynamics called the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) that will be implemented in all GM race cars.

Here is how Kevin Bayless, GM Racing oval track chassis/aero Program Manager explains how the CFD works:

"The best way to describe CFD is a wind tunnel in a computer. CFD is a simulation that predicts the aerodynamic forces acting on a vehicle using computational methods rather than physical measurements. CFD allows engineers and racing teams to evaluate the effects of aerodynamic changes quickly on a computer screen rather than in a conventional wind tunnel.

The CFD software requires a supercomputer because the number of calculations is immense. For example, our aerodynamic models typically have more than 10 million discrete data points that are used to calculate the forces. It really is rocket science."

"CFD allows us to visualize the flow to understand what the air is doing and where the aerodynamic forces are being generated. That's simply not possible with a model or a full-size vehicle in a wind tunnel. CFD also allows us to test aerodynamics without a physical model, which can be helpful in the early stages of a design. We can analyze and compare various alternatives before actually building a prototype vehicle." he further explains.

GM Racing will first implement the CFD aerodynamic simulation system to the next-generation Chevrolet Impala SS that will debut in NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. GM said engineers utilized the CFD to gain insight into the effects of the new body shape, front splitter, and adjustable rear wing of the Impala SS. However, GM said although CFD is a powerful engineering tool for testing vehicle aerodynamics, it is not a replacement for the typical wind tunnel and track testing.

Bayless commented: "Although the Car of Tomorrow is highly regulated, it's not a spec race car. As a manufacturer, Chevrolet was able to define many of the details that separate the Impala SS from our competitors' cars. The headlights, grille, portions of the hood, and the tail were areas where GM Racing was able to incorporate Impala SS styling cues and brand identity. These areas are now fixed as part of the NASCAR Impala SS package."

"The computing time required to run CFD programs is a limitation even with a supercomputer," Bayless noted. "A team can run through more tests in a day in a wind tunnel than can be done with CFD. At this point in its development, CFD supplements the testing that's done in wind tunnels and on race tracks. We share the information that GM Racing obtains through CFD with the Chevy teams." he added.

Just wait and see how the Chevrolet Impala SS "Car of Tomorrow" performs at the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series this season.

Will Junebug, Smoke and Rainbow's fans still cheer their drivers on when they switch to Ford?

The government is telling GM to have a bankruptcy plan in place by June 1st.

You wanna bet one of the things the bankruptcy judge will order GM to do is withdraw from racing?
I'm an old school NASCAR fan, I cheer Ford drivers because I like Ford and dislike Chevy. I'm curious how many of these youngsters who spout "It's not the car it's the driver" will still cheer for their bowtie man when he wears a Blue Oval? Hmmmmmmmmmm.............
Madame, what is wrong with Yahoo News? Anyway the story has been widely reported-

I'm just afraid with Uncle Obama, er uncle Sam running the show, they will tell the companies build cars and forget about racing. GM has already dropped Tiger Woods and the Super Bowl sponsorships, NASCAR may well be next.

Yep, considering it's the blamed foolish socialist schemed gubmint that's headin' 'em that way how could we help but be supportive of Ford? I've always bought Chevy's and Dodges myself, but with Ford's refusal to take part in this bailout fiasco I'm thinkin' my next vehicle will definitely be a Ford.

And how could I not cheer for my driver's if they don't have any choice?

I'm like you about cheering drivers, only I was always a Bowtie gal. But, heck, this is America and freedom we're talking about. Ford has me at this point.

Danica Patrick: Time To Start The IndyCar Season
The Road Runner Turbo Indy 300 will be Danica Patrick's first attempt at a possible Top Five finish this year. The Izod IndyCar series began their season four races ago in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Patrick will begin to seriously race for points when she returns to the oval track at Kansas City Speedway this coming weekend. Presently, she is lounging 16th in the points standings.  Her ranking reflects ...
