Midnight Madness Midnight Madness

Sale Price: $5.83

Features include: •MPAA Rating: PG•Format: DVD•Runtime: 112 minutes

Nothing dates a movie quite as much as a roller-skating blonde in white shorts and a tube top. Midnight Madness opens with exactly that and quickly follows with a scene in which a student counselor reassures a romantically nervous freshman with the line, "Flynch, you could be a real Burt Reynolds, I know you could." Ah, nostalgia. Made on the cusp of the '80s, after Animal House but before Porky's, Disney's college comedy gained a considerable following, thanks to countless screenings on HBO during the Reagan administration. Like all the best cult movies, it's awful, but compelling nonetheless. This is a film in which all the nerds look alike, the jocks have names such as Armpit, and you get to see fat twins shake their abundant disco booties. The plot revolves around an all-night scavenger hunt, with five teams of competing students racing around Los Angeles solving clues and getting into all sorts of amusing scrapes, including a visit to the Pabst brewery that will have you humming ancient advertising songs for days. David Naughton, who went on to star in An American Werewolf in London, is our hero, but the real fun comes from Stephen Furst as the mean and chubby rich kid and the legendary über-nerd Eddie Deezen as Wesley. Michael J. Fox makes his film debut as Naughton's troubled but feisty kid brother, and the eagle-eyed viewer may even spot Paul Reubens in a tiny role. Being a Disney film that was released before Porky's made shower scenes an integral part of campus comedies, this is a curiously innocent movie--just watch how long it takes the teams to decipher the clue, "Look between the two giant melons." Nevertheless, Midnight Madness is 112 minutes of undemanding, cheesy fun for anyone who remembers the last days of disco. It makes Animal House look like Chekhov, but watch it with a group of friends, and perhaps a little Pabst Blue Ribbon, and you'll have a hoot. --Simon Leake

Being a professional video game tester is obviously great. You get to play the newest video games and you get paid to do so. Honestly, what more could any gamer ask for? However, the big questions is: how much does a video game tester get paid? After all, if the pay isn't any good, why would a person continue in that line of work?

The average video game tester salary can range from 15-20 thousand dollars per year all the way up to 80-100+ thousand per year. How much a game tester makes is directly related to how many jobs he gets as well as what developers hire him. However, since most game testers work on a job by job basis and not on a contractual salary, let's break down the yearly figure into an hourly and a weekly figure.

Game testers are typically paid $8-20 per hour, depending on their level of experience. For this example, let's take the middle ground and go with $15 per hour for a mid-level tester. Game testers tend to put in a lot of hours each week (40 to 50+), which is usually due to a developer's inflexible deadlines. With that being said, let's say the tester works the typically minimum (40 hours) and is paid the aforementioned $15 per hour of testing work. 40 hours x $15 is a weekly paycheck of $600 dollars, assuming the tester were to work that many hours each week. Sounds like a nice paycheck, right? You bet it does, and most gamers would be thrilled to cash a check like that every week.

The big downside to being a video game tester, as mentioned above, is that your career progresses on a per job basis. You won't get a testing job every month, nor will you get one every week. As a matter of fact, it is fairly common to have a long wait in between many of your testing jobs. So, unless you are at the top of your game and tons of game developers know of you, be prepared to wait in line like all the rest. Fortunately for you though, there is a way to increase the amount of job openings that are available to you, and it's known as networking. Does a career as a professional video game tester peek your interest? Well, it should. Game testing is a great job and anyone who does it will say the same thing. The few drawbacks that come with video game testing don't even come close to making it an "iffy" decision, and that's simply because this career is genuinely fun!

What Drives NASCAR Drivers?

NASCAR drivers give up time with their families, a lot of money, and potentially their lives to have a career in racing. What kind of passion motivates them?

Imagine what family time is like for a NASCAR driver. Testing begins in January and races don't end until mid-November. That's racing or practicing almost every weekend and the week is the time for race preparation. Lack of time together strains even the strongest of marriages. That's why Dale Earnhardt, Jr. has chosen to stay single for now. He says he has seen half a dozen marriages fail and expects to see another half dozen end because of racing. The long and brutal schedule doesn't leave much time for family life.

NASCAR racing is an expensive sport. Someone has to pay for entry fees, travel expenses, and racing gear. It's not uncommon to hear of parents taking out a second mortgage to get their kids to the track so they can be discovered. Being a big name in the NASCAR news is the ultimate goal for these families. For some families, like Denny Hamlin's, it has really paid off. Denny has been able to give back to his parents everything that they gave up for him to succeed and them some. Not everyone is so lucky.

Although NASCAR is cracking down on safety, racing is still a dangerous sport with the death toll at a startling 32 since the inception of NASCAR. Dale Earnhardt, Sr. left not only a nameless faceless nation of NASCAR fans in mourning on the fateful day of this death but people who loved him and called him friend. Drivers crave the speed and the thrill of racing. Do they ever feel fear when they strap into their seats and get ready to travel at speeds close to 200 mph? If they do, they're not telling.

What kind of passion compels NASCAR drivers to take the risk every time they get on the track? Does the possibility that they might lose their life ever cause them to rethink their decision to be a driver? Is it worth it? To be able to do something every day that they love and have a passion for is enough for these guys. The fever that drives these NASCAR stars is something that causes them to make sacrifices and never look back. And the millions of NASCAR fans are grateful.

what does it mean when you slip the clutch?

I was watching a dvd about Mustangs last night. They were testing an '06 and the driver managed to run in the mid 13's. He said he was lauching at 5000 and slipping the clutch a little bit. What did he mean by saying he was "slipping the clutch"?

Also, I was out crusing one time and I got a light with a guy in a firebird and he said he didn't want to race cuz his clutch was slipping. Is this the same thing as the above statement?

Two different things. In the Mustang 'sliiping the clutch' mean he was not releasing the clutch all the way when taking off. This is hard on a clutch but it multiplies the torque. In the Firebird he said his clutch was slipping because it was worn out. When a clutch is worn out it starts slipping. Just as if you had pressed the clutch pedal a little. If you keep driving eventually the car won't move even when it's in gear.
