One of Minolta's claims to fame is that they introduced to the world, back in 1985, the very first autofocusing (AF) 35mm SLR ever produced: the Maxxum 7000. The Maxxum 7 is the fifth-generation version of that original Minolta AF SLR, combining recent advances in lens design, light metering, exposure systems, and focusing automation with an ease of operation that offers photographers tremendous precision and versatility in the field. The Maxxum 7 is the first SLR body to adopt a dot matrix navigation display, giving you the camera's overall status at a glance. The large 1.5-by-1-inch LCD panel is positioned on the camera's back cover and provides a variety of information to meet users' specific preferences or skills. This information includes camera settings, custom functions, exposure history, meter index, brightness distribution, depth of field, and data memory (selectable in five different languages). And for easy readability, the LCD display automatically shifts from horizontal to vertical orientation depending on the camera's position. This feature saves photographers the trouble of changing their holding position each time they check the data panel--which is typically placed on the top of the camera. The central processing unit in the Maxxum 7 has a data processing speed five times faster than earlier AF SLR models. This camera provides the world's fastest autofocus speed, in spite of the greater volume of data received from the wide focus area, due to its powerful lens driving motor that promises quick accelerations and decelerations of lens movement. The Maxxum 7 is able to track abrupt changes in speed or direction perfectly. In fact, the second you bring this camera to your eye, the lens snaps into focus and is ready for use, even if you, or the object you are shooting, happens to be in motion. For example, with a 300mm lens attached, the Maxxum 7 can accurately follow an object moving as fast as 31 miles per hour to within 26 feet. The new AF module incorporates eight line sensors, as well as Minolta's unique center dual cross-hair sensors. Its nine-point sensors cover the central area of the viewfinder frame and divide it horizontally and vertically into thirds. By efficiently covering a wide focus area, the nine-point sensors assure great flexibility when composing pictures and allow the photographer to precisely capture moving subjects. The Advanced Distance Integration (ADI) flash metering system provides greater accuracy when used with Minolta's new AF lenses, which incorporate distance encoders. The guide number control and the four-segment preflash metering work together to virtually eliminate the influence of background or subject reflectance in your photographs. The Maxxum 7 also features 35 customizable functions that allow photographers to take instant control of virtually all camera functions. Its ergonomically redesigned AF/MF control button permits the switch between autofocus (AF) and manual focus (MF) modes via a button located on the back of the camera. This button is easily operated without losing sight of the subject in the camera's viewfinder.Relatively small (5.6 by 3.8 by 2.6 inches) and lightweight (20.3 ounces), this camera's compact body, with the ultracompact AF 24-105mm f3.5 to f4.5 standard lens, assures greater handling and carrying comfort. With power performance features such as a top shutter speed of 1/8,000 second and a maximum drive speed of four frames per second--and all of this in a body smaller than any other 35mm AF SLR with comparable features--the Maxxum 7 sets a new standard for performance and compactness. |

A Nebula-Award finalist, showcasing suspense and danger in a slow-light environment. From the author of MANHATTAN TRANSFER and others. Aboard the hyperspace liner Redshift, the first sign of trouble is the apparent suicide of a passenger. When first officer Jason Kraft discovers that she was murdered, Kraft wants to know why. Before long, a desperate group of people tries to use the hyperspace craft for their evil purposes, and Kraft is the only person in their way. From the PASSENGER GUIDE. WARNING: Read This Guide Before Boarding the Redshift. The environment aboard a hyperspace craft is quite safe as long as you are careful. The management reminds you that the speed of light on board this craft is ten meters per second, or about 30 million times slower than what you are used to. This means you will frequently encounter relativistic effects and optical illusions... |

What if you could change your route to work AND get in great shape at the same time? Are you lucky enough to be in a position to cycle to your place of employment? It can be a total chore on some days to have to traverse the same route and encounter the exact same obstacles every time.
During winter months in particular, the ride to work can be the only chance a number of us get to be back in the saddle, and we should try to maximise the benefit of it, in terms of both enjoyment and training possibilities. Learn how to put variation and productivity into the every day journey simply by trying some different techniques and creating a well-balanced exercise program within the ride.
Unless you are really lucky, your ride to and from your work will include traffic, junctions and crossings etc, and may end up being stop/start, fast/slow. Rather than looking at these red signals as a disadvantage or a set back to be passed at maximum speed, think differently, take advantage of the stop/starts as an opportunity to acquire extra cycling skills, like sprint starts (on green, not amber!) or track stands.
A first-rate well-rounded cycling training programme must at all times include elements addressing the high speed sprints plus the stamina necessary for the more prolonged stretches.
Very simply, your body demands and employs a range of resources for these 2 types of endeavour, and the best all round cyclists have evolved their bodies to produce optimum efficiency across the board.
Have you tried cadence training? Instead of making those quick gear changes, try spinning the pedals round ten per cent faster than normal before you slip into your next gear. Stay in the saddle and build and retain your stability while simultaneously increasing the cadence. This is a superb method of improving pedalling technique and just about all elements of your cycling performance. It is no happy accident that the leading riders utilise cadence training to keep in front of the pack.
Did you perhaps have fun with the game 'run a street lamp, walk a street lamp' when you were younger? As kids, whenever we had a long walk to do, we would start out at the very 1st street light, and run as fast as we possibly could to the next, then walk to the one after that... and then run the next, etc. As it turns out, and we did not grasp this back then, this is the base of Fartlek exercise - alternating fast and slow elements, using and building up both the aerobic and anaerobic functions. However, with the Fartlek method, the sprints and the recovery sections should ideally vary in length. Try this on your bike.
Absolutely key to all of this is personal and road safety. We cannot encourage you to undertake any of the above without you being totally aware of your safety and the existence and possible behaviour of the surrounding road users. Our motorist friend will not know why you keep flashing past them several times, only for him to have to pass you again almost immediately afterwards as you hit the slower phase... it could even annoy him. And we know from experience that this generally does not take very much!
So, enjoy your commute to and from work, enhance the training aspects, and arrive at the new cycling season at a new cycling performance peak and armed with some great new training techniques.
There are two trends right now that can help accelerate your cycling training levels beyond your previous expectations. For most of us, the use of a cycling computer which can monitor your heart rate and match it to a known route can make the difference between improvement and peak performance. A GPS enabled Cycling Computer can be bought for a very reasonable price online. For those of us who aspire to semi-pro levels and upwards, Power Meter Training is at the cutting edge of peak performance cycling training. Starting prices for Power Meters are very reasonable, but can reach dizzying heights with some high end kit. You should be aware of the pros and cons of all types of power meter before investing your hard earned cash

“eco Drive” Unveiled by Fiat and Microsoft at the Frankfurt
At the Frankfurt Motor Show Fiat Group Automobiles together with Microsoft will unveil its “Eco Drive”.
This Eco Drive solution headed by the Fiat Group Automobiles shows that an automaker’s environmental responsibility should continue even when the car leaves the production line and should extend up to the time when consumers start using their cars.
At present the official fuel consumption and emission figures of cars are obtained by using cars that are driven by professional drivers on a Roller Dynamometer Test Bench. The results are then certified by the European Union. The testing takes place in optimum ambient conditions with fixed vehicle speed, time and gear shift options but without the use of air conditioning, radio, lights, and auto meter tachometer other devices to ensure that the results are comparable. However real emissions levels are significantly different and usually are dependent on where the car is driven whether in a rural or an urban setting. Likewise the condition of the car as well as the driver’s driving style is also being considered.
Basically the Eco Drive has the same purpose as that of the Roller Dynamometer Test Bench and that is to determine fuel consumption and emission of vehicles however in the manner of gathering data that is where the Eco Drive surpass the latter since all of its gathered data relating to vehicle efficiency and emission are simply transmitted into a normal USB key via the Blue&Me’s USB gate. The driver have to simply plugs the USB into a PC and viola!—the driver is provided with detailed environmental performance of the car including of course its level of CO2 emissions for each trips that it took. And that’s not all! The Eco Drive also analyzes the driver’s style and then provides recommendations and tips on how to further improve driving to save fuel and to reduce CO2 emissions.
The Eco Drive also encourages the driver to set targets for his travels like in terms of CO2 reduction for particular journeys or even go as far as set a target covering a certain period of time. The objective of the Eco Drive is to help drivers to better understand their cars so that they may be able to change their driving behaviors in such a way that they will reduce the harmful effect of their vehicles to the environment.
This project was initiated by Microsoft and Fiat nearly four years ago and will be employed across the Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Iveco, and Lancia ranges. The Eco Drive was developed on Microsoft’s flexible and updateable platform Microsoft Auto, which was innovated by Fiat in partnership with Microsoft to come up with the in-car infotainment solution called the Blue&Me™.
Eco Drive will be made available starting 2008 in certain Fiat models equipped with the Blue&Me™ system. This marks another step in the innovative collaboration between Microsoft and Fiat Group Automobiles.

what is wrong with my 95 silverado?
i just changed the alternator cause the battery light was coming on and the battery voltage meter would fluctuate between 0 and 14 volts. Only sometimes though! When I am driving, and it gets down to 0 volts the truck does not die, but it loses power and it wont shift. The battery is relatively new, and it seems like it's dead, but it will still start the truck, it just cranks over really slowly. After it's started, it idles really high and only charges a really low voltage, with not enough power to actually take off. After I changed the alternator it ran good for about a month or two and it just started doing the same thing. Now it will not run at all. It is a 95 silverado 1500 with a 350 v8. automatic transmission.
theres a problem with it, thats whats wrong.
go to a mechanic.
maybe they can help.
