VOLKSWAGEN LOGO Belt Buckle VW Jetta Beetle GTI (Brand New) Sale Price: $8.96 |
Here are some more information for Jetta Beetle Gti:

It is a brand name for a family of diesel engines developed by DaimlerChrysler, but BLUETEC [or bluetec] is now also being used by Volkswagen, AG as it, too, begins to market its all new diesel offerings. Why is this important? Because DaimlerChrysler realizes that the world can benefit much more if automakers market common technology instead of going it alone. Will you be one of those motorists to purchase a bluetec powered Volkswagen?
On the eve of the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show, an announcement was made that Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen, and Jeep would be jointly using the BLUETEC designation to describe their new diesel engines. Mercedes and Jeep are DaimlerChrysler {DCX} companies while Audi and VW belong to the Volkswagen Group.
The announcement was significant because it meant that a term that was reserved for DCX companies would also be picked up by Volkswagen and used to describe their engines even hough separate, but similar technology went into their respective development. The similarity of all bluetec engines is as follows:
Bluetec engines are highly fuel efficient, clean, and they meet all current US emissions requirements which happen to be some of the toughest in the world.
Bluetec engines incorporate various nitrogen oxide reduction systems to reduce pollution.
Bluetec engines have improved torque and reduce fuel consumption by 20 to 40 percent over comparable gas powered models.
For Volkswagen, BLUETEC will appear across their model line at least in Europe where diesels make up nearly fifty percent of the market. In the US, where diesel demand has been lagging, the new BLUETEC diesels are expected to have a hand in raising diesel sales to an expected 15% of all new car sales by 2015.
Despite the introduction of bluetec, Volkswagen will slowly introduce new diesel powered models as the company gauges consumer demand. The Volkswagen Passat and Volkswagen Jetta are two models thought to have the best chance of seeing bluetec diesels with the VW
Touareg also under consideration.
The Volkswagen New Beetle may be the test car to introduce bluetec to the lower end of the market. The New Beetle has been a raging success in the US where it is perceived to be an environmentally friendly vehicle. Adding bluetec to the New Beetle will help the company decide whether it could power the EOS, GTI, Rabbit, Golf, and the soon to be released compact crossover/SUV, the Tiguan.
Price may ultimately be the deciding factor as to whether VW successfully markets diesel aspirated vehicles in the U.S. With hybrid technology prices slowly retreating, consumers will want to make certain that the diesel cars that they select compete effectively. Furthermore, American consumers still remember the polluting and belching diesels from the 1970s and 1980s; will they accept the current technology or pass on the chance to buy a Volkswagen car powered by bluetec technology? All of that remains to be seen, but the next few years should reveal just how far reaching BLUETEC technology really is.

Volkswagen Sees 25% Gain in 2007
Volkswagen AG's joint venture with First Automotive Works Corp. (FAW), one of the leading Sino-foreign auto partnerships, expects its profits to increase this year by at least a quarter, helped by brisk sales and cost-cutting efforts.
The venture, FAW Volkswagen, in the northeastern city of Changchun, will have a "minimum" profit growth of 25 percent this year from 2006, said Joachim Wedler, its vice-president in charge of finance. But Wedler did not reveal how much the firm, in which FAW holds a 60 percent stake and Volkswagen 40 percent, will earn this year.
Weiming Soh, the venture's sales chief, said that it plans to sell more than 400,000 cars this year, up from 350,000 units in the previous year. In the first five months, its retail sales jumped by 25.1 percent year-on-year to 173,218 units, landing on the third post after General Motors' venture with SAIC Motor Corp and Volkswagen's other partnership with SAIC. FAW Volkswagen's June sales are expected to exceed 40,000 units, Soh said.
The company's bold profit and sales projections came amid blistering growth of China's vehicle market. Sales of all China-made vehicles increased by 22 percent to 3.65 million units from January to May, including 2.12 million passenger cars, according to industry data.
In the first four months, combined profits of the top 16 Chinese auto groups reached 18.1 billion yuan, rocketing by 51.3 percent. Wedler said that FAW Volkswagen will use more locally made engines and spare parts to cut costs. "We are shooting for a very high localization rate to have more financial power to beat competition," he said, without elaborating.
In China, the competition in the passenger car market is getting tougher and tougher. It is further bolstered by the rising price incentives and a number of product launches. Automakers offered some 50 price cuts in the first five months of this year, according to data from FAW Volkswagen. An Tiecheng, the venture's general manager, said that it plans to roll out at least two new models under the Volkswagen and Audi marques annually in the next five years to lure increasingly sophisticated auto purchasers. Audi is the luxury car unit of Volkswagen.
The venture will introduce a Volkswagen Magotan large-sized sedan next month. Its current lineup includes Volkswagen's Jetta, Bora, Golf, Sagitar and Caddy as well as the Audi A6 and the A4.
The Volkswagen Mangotan, also called the Passat, Corsar, Dasher, Quantum and the Santana in other territories, follows the latest design philosophy first introduced on the VW Phaeton luxury car. The new styling is a dramatic departure from the styling of the B5.5 Passat. Although the new design using improved VW parts is somewhat controversial, sales have improved over the old model.
The four-wheel drive version, the transverse-engine platform dictated a switch from the Torsen center differential of the B5 to the Haldex multi-plate clutch. This modification also changes the handling closer to a front-wheel drive car, with better fuel economy and a more spacious interior.
The Mangotan also features Fuel Stratified Injection in nearly every petrol version. It ranges from 1.6 to 3.2 L, but the multivalve 2.0 L TDI is the most sought out version in Europe. In the United States, it features a 200 horsepower 2.0 L turbocharged I4 as the base engine, or a 280 horsepower 3.6 L VR6 engine as the upgrade and six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
The Wolfsburg-based automaker is one of the world’s biggest producers of passenger cars. The German company also is Europe’s largest automaker. Volkswagen also produces the Rabbit, New Beetle, New Beetle convertible, GTI, GLI, Eos, and the Touareg through about 600 independent dealers in the United States.

Why are there less Volkswagen models available in US than other countries?
They currently only sell 10 models in US (Jetta, Passat, New Beetle, Rabbit, Eos, GLI, GTI, R32, Tiguan, & Toureg). But they sell 13 models in South Africa, 20 in South America, 22 in Asia/Pacific, and 20 in Europe. What gives?
A lot of issues are in play here; however, its fair to say that some of the models are not well suited to the US market. The Polo, as popular as it is, is probably too small for US tastes and low horsepower motors its equipped with won't make many converts here. In addition, until just recently, VW was attempting to move the product line upscale to the near luxury area, a entry level car like the Polo would work against that.
VW also has assembly plants in various countries around the world; Brazil, Argentina, China, Spain, Russia and other places where they can make models suited to the local market. VW hasn't had an assembly plant in the US market since 1983? or so; most of the vehicles sold in the US market are made in Mexico, which also has to build vehicles for the local market.
One of the other issues the powertrain; it takes many millions of dollars to certify a vehicle to meet the emissions and safety standards that the US has (not to menion the California emissions standards that are the strictest in the world), so because of the number vehicles that VW currently sells in the US, they have a limited number of powertrain choices, which in turn limits the type and kind of vehicles that they can sell here.
Finally, since they have no assembly plant in the US, models that aren't assembled in Mexico are very expenisve to import. With the Euro now trading at close at or near 1.60 US dollars to a single Euro, VW is close to taking a loss on some vehicles sold in the US. A Passat is actually slightly cheaper in the USA, than at home with compariable equipment levels.
Having once owning stock in a now departed auto maker; I can remember them once telling us poor shareholders how they saved millions of dollars in tooling for the body shell by modifying the existing body dies for the "new car." Ford, it was reported, spent over 1 billion dollars in development and tooling costs to develop the 1986 Mercury Sable and Ford Tarus models: if it had failed in the market placed Ford wouldn't be with us today.
Hope this gives you some insight into why the US market doesn't get some models sold overseas.
