In the air travel industry, airlines live and die by their operating costs, a large component of which is their fuel costs. That is why aircraft manufacturers have whole departments whose purpose in life is to track and reduce the weight of the airplanes, ounce by ounce and gram by gram. Auto performance enthusiasts can take a tip from aerospace engineers- by instituting a weight reduction program, you can get dramatic performance and power increases and save gas.
What other mod to your car can effect braking, cornering, acceleration and gas mileage, reduces wear on your engine, suspension and brakes, and doesn't void your warranty? Not many.
Here are a few ways to reduce your car's weight you may want to consider.
1) Remove all the broken parts you don't plan on fixing. For example, if have a broken power antenna motor or an old cassette stereo unit you never use- you can take them out.
2) Clean out your trunk. You might be surprised how much gas you're wasting if you haven't looked in your trunk in awhile. Your spouse or teenager (or you!) may have decided this was good place for long-term storage. It's not. Old phone books, folding lawn chairs, sandbags for winter traction, cases of dog food, we've seen it all. They belong in the garage or basement.
3) Lose the flashy bling-bling rims. Get forged aluminum wheels to replace showy steel wheels. Those are for show, not for speed, usually. While you're at it, look for lightweight tires. Compare weight on your current tires to some others on the market. The differences can be significant.
4) Carbon Fiber Panels instead of steel. They may be a little pricy, but are certainly a cost-effective replacement over time. Depending on your local vehicle code, you may also be able to replace your steel hood and trunk lid with carbon fiber ones. Major savings here.
5) Replace power seats with racing seats. Power seats can weigh in at up to 75 pounds each. Replacing them with lightweight fixed-back racing bucket seats that weigh ten pounds or less each will shave 150 pounds off your car.

High-performance Volvo S80 Ready for 2007 Sema
Heico Sportiv, a German automotive tuning company exclusively for Volvo vehicle models released the details of the newest item that will be added to the company's product lineup.
Heico Sportiv applied their engineering skills to the Volvo S80 and added some high-performance parts to boost the vehicle's dynamic handling and power output. Called the Heico S80 High Performance Concept, this model will make its world debut at the upcoming SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) Show later this October.
The Heico S80 High Performance Concept will be equipped with a turbocharged T6 engine under its hood capable of pumping out 350 hp at 5,500 rpm and pulls out a massive 550 Nm of peak torque rotating between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm. This power unit allows the Heico S80 High Performance Concept to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 5.8 seconds. The good things is, this turbocharged T6 engine can run on E85 fuel, a mixture 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. The Heico S80 High Performance Concept features also features the company's electronically controlled All Wheel Drive system with Instant Traction as well as specially developed sport suspension, new shocks and springs. Other technical parts include the 6-pot sport brake system with blue callipers featuring the Heico Sportiv logo, sports brake pads and 355x32 mm discs.
"We wanted to explore how far we could take a special high-performance version of the S80. Heico Sportiv's impressive track record in motor sports and Volvo tuning made them the perfect partner for the job," says Lex Kerssemakers, Senior Vice President Brand, Business and Product Strategy at Volvo Cars. "Personally, I think the result is absolutely stunning. Both when it comes to the exterior and interior design as well as the impressive muscle under the bonnet." he added.
Heico Sportiv's president Holger Hedtke also added: "We are very pleased that Volvo Cars has given us the opportunity to design a concept car that profiles the sporty emotions of the brand and still remains true to the company's core values. Just like the C30 "Camo" we designed for SEMA last year, the S80 High Performance Concept represents the very best of our long experience of Volvo tuning and motor sports. The engine development is not yet finalized, so we hope to reach an even higher horsepower figure when the car is ready for SEMA. When it comes to the driving experience, we aimed at tuning all the components so we get a dynamic yet harmonious result. In other words, a true sports car experience without losing."
The Heico S80 High Performance Concept comes in high-tech aluminum exterior look. This distinctive appeal on the vehicle is highlighted by other exterior features including the exclusive 20-inch VOLUTION X forged alloy wheels covered with 255/30 R 20 tires from Continental. Other exterior features of the Heico S80 High Performance Concept include matte finish black chrome tailpipe trim, window mouldings, front grill, and rub strips. Moreover the car also features integrated spoiler flaps on the front, three larger air ducts, integrated LED daytime running lights, Volvo fog lights, integrated sport grille with the Volvo iron mark, stainless steel exhaust system integrated into the wide rear spoiler, and a rear deck spoiler.
"To bring out the shiny, "real metal" effect was a major challenge. This type of paint is normally not used to cover a whole car. All told, the bodywork features seven coats of paint. The coat that gives the aluminium effect doesn't allow any touch-ups afterwards, so you have to get it right from the beginning. The whole process takes two weeks." says Holger Hedtke.
Inside, the Heico S80 High Performance Concept comes in high-quality leather Mystic Blue interior with blue stitching, Heico Sportiv logo, sport-contoured front seats, along with other interior features like two individual "bucket" seats, sports steering wheel trimmed in leather, leather-trim gear lever with silver carbon accent, extended floating centre stack, and a rear seat entertainment system.

Hi, I have a 2006 Corolla S. Does anyone know of any KNOWLEDGEABLE places/people in SOUTH FLORIDA that will upgrade entire engines....[pistons, valves, fuel, ETC] for performance purposes??? maybe at reasonable prices, and professional quality work???
No idea. But the best thing to do is to cruise around and ask. Check the yellow pages for engine builders. Call the first one you find and ask if there are any who specialize in toyotas.
You'd be suprised at how much info you can get by picking up the phone.
