Here are some more information for Heat Shield Headers:

A good Tig Welding Tip for you is to use a TigFinger heatshield when you are welding and you cant find a good way to steady your hand. A TigFinger can be made from leather or from a finger of an old glove but it will not work as well as one that is made from high tech heat resistant material that is slick and slides easily on hot metal.
Have you ever been welding on something that got really hot and you started shaking a bit because you couldn't prop directly on the hot metal? That is no way to show off your welding skills is it?
So here is my main tig welding tip:
Why not keep a TigFinger Heatshield in your back pocket for those times when you need to prop your knuckles right next to the weld?
I have found the TigFinger useful for tig welding all sorts of things:
- Aluminum castings like transmission housings that need a preheat or that get really hot while you weld
- 4130 chromoly tubing cluster welds or for roll bar or race car parts
- Stainless pipe and tubing welds
- Stainless steel headers where you need to rest your hand near the weld
- Aluminum tubing like for Tuna Towers and marine handrails
- magnesium castings like gearbox housings or some chainsaw parts
- aluminum or stainless boat propellors
The list goes on but I think you get the point...
A TigFinger is one of the most useful TIG tools ever.
An article like this about tig welding tips does not do it justice.
That's why You really need to watch this short informative video showing how to use Tillman Gloves with a tigfinger...and while you are there see the other Down and Dirty welding tips, visit http://www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/.
Green Viper Spotted
People at DragTimes.com have released the first shot of the green venomous 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 which was just right off the assembly line in Michigan. The all new Viper in never before seen snakeskin green color would definitely make any Jaguar to lose its Jaguar car cover in fright.
Aside from its amazing new look the 600HP Viper will also have four new “lifesaver” colors such as Venom Red, Viper Violet, Viper Orange, and Bright Blue. But throughout the model year eight exterior colors are to be introduced. Racing stripes are offered as an option but are available in most color combinations.
The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT will be equipped with an 8.4-liter aluminum V10 engine that produces 600 horsepower and 560 pound-foot of potent torque. This new Viper is capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in under four seconds and can reach 0 to 100 then decelerate back to 0 in less than twelve seconds.
The venomous V10 aluminum engine block of the green Viper was bored out 1mm which increases the displacement to 8.4 liters from the previous 8.3 liters. The new Viper has also stronger bulkheads as well as improved water jackets for better cooling. The block includes pressed-in iron cylinder liners and cross-bolted main bearing caps for added durability and strength.
The 8.4-liter engine breathes through its new cylinder heads equipped with CNC shaped combustion chambers, Variable Valve Timing (VVT), and larger valves. VVT electronically adjust when the exhaust valves are open and the closed according to engine speed and load. This allows the engine breathe cleaner and more efficiently.
The engine lubrication is also made more efficient with the addition of a larger oil pump and a swinging oil pickup adapted from Viper competition engines which helps in improving oil pressure in high rpm and hard cornering conditions.
Emission exits through tubular air-gap headers which improve exhaust flow and assures rapid catalyst light-off. The headers’ stamped stainless-steel outer shell functions as a thermal heat shield for the individual stainless-steel runners. This contributes to better flow separation and exhaust tuning.
The new Dodge Viper SRT10 has not only increase performance but also complies with the regulatory requirements such as the federal Tire 2, Bin 5, and California’s Low Emissions Vehicle (LEV) 2 mandates. The very first Viper SRT10 was the result of a collaborative effort from McLaren Performance Technologies and Ricardo, Inc. The SRT engineers have followed the racer’s basic formula for more power which includes bigger displacement, more efficient breathing and higher engine speed.
With the release of the green Viper it is only a matter of time before other Vipers followed suit. But for now we’ll just have to wait and see.

I think I have oil coming out my exhaust manifold, what does this mean?
I noticed a oil leak around the exhaust manifold. I removed the heat shield and then took off the header. There is a slight amount of oil coming out of the exhaust manifold. The exhaust manifold gasket is kinda tired looking.
any ideas? what could be causing this?
It's what is referred to as "blow by" from worn out piston rings. It might be time to replace them.
