How to perform fuel pump pressure test?
The car is a 71 VW Bus with weber progressive carb and electric fuel pump. Do I connect the guage directly to the fuel pump or use a T between pump and carb? Test pump pressure alone or with engine running? Originally I had a regulator but it broke down very early on and I found it was (apparently) not needed. however, in the past year I get some backfire on deceleration down hill and suspect high pressure might be responsible. Maybe I should specify muffler explosion type backfire. (At night it even produces dramatic blasts of light. )
Also any ideas on where to get adapters? Fuel line is about 5/16 and tester the standard, (1/8?).
Because of the setup back there there si a chronic leak at one of the dooughnut joints. Without that air, it could not combust. But I suspect the carb is also dribbling under certain conditions. It always leaked there (exhuast) but did not backfire. Anyway I want to test the pressure for several reasons.
Your fuel pressure isn't the problem here.
It backfires due to an exhaust leak before the muffler.
Fix the exhaust leak.
