"Mild traumatic brain injury" is a serious injury, despite the term of "mild" and the casual attitude that parents, doctors and children have persistently held about kids and head injuries. Concussions are often looked upon as a natural part of childhood and growing up. Children are active, and knocks to the head in children are not always preventable with a helmet.

A large Canadian National Population Health Survey even suggested that 89% of respondents suffered a concussion. These numbers that represent international head injuries are highly underestimated - as it is likely that thousands of head trauma injuries go unreported every year. The symptoms of concussions such as headaches, forgetfulness, and even depression, can be easily attributed to mood changes, too much homework, social issues, or the child's current environment. If you are a parent and your child is active in sports, or has already suffered a head injury, becoming aware of the signs and symptoms of a concussion in a child can help you recognize what are signs of a concussion, and what are merely signs of growing pains. Historically, speaking, parents have been told to "follow up with their physician" after a concussion, and thereafter only report back if symptoms of a concussion surface.
However, it was recently reported in the Annals of Surgery that children are at high risk of suffering a second concussion or prolonged symptoms after a first one has occurred if they return to play too soon. And now, top physicians are recommending that children do not return to regular activity until they are further examined for neurological deficiencies through a formal screening. Concussions in children that are not followed up on and formally assessed for neurological deficits can result in not only the susceptibility to prolonged symptoms, but there is also an increase in the chances of dying from a traumatic head injury in the future. Don't let your doctor take your child's concussion casually, and keep your child out of sports and activities until a formal evaluation of your child's cognitive ability and neurological well-being is conducted.
At the very least, don't push your child into sports and potentially head-harming physical activity until a reasonable recuperation period has passed. Take the time to rest your child's injured head even if they insist they feel better, and learn to recognize the signs and symptoms. The head and the brain are tough, and kids are tougher, but resting their heads now will keep them tough against a more damaging concussion in the future.

Road Or Mountain Bike Helmet - Which One Do You Choose?
Whether you are riding a road bike or a mountain bike, you certainly need to wear a helmet for safety purposes. A good helmet can protect your head from the sun and from any accidents.
It used to be the case that for some road races that finish up in a mountain, racers can ride without having to wear helmets. But even that rule has been scraped now. For safety purposes, all racing events (road and mountain bikes alike) must take place with helmets on - no exceptions. If a rider is found without a helmet, he or she will be disqualified.
But what about if you are not riding in race? Do you still need to wear a helmet? Common sense tells us that the helmet can help protect our head in the event of an accident. Still, many riders take this issue lightly and fail to put on helmets while riding.
On a road bike, the bicycle is traveling at a higher speed. During downhill descents, speed reach up to 100 kph. That's as fast as a motor vehicle! A crash can cause serious injuries or in the worst case scenario, may even be fatal. There are so many riders blogging about their crashes, and many were just glad that they had their helmets on when they crashed. They kept their broken helmets as souvenirs. Now they can show off their "scars" to their friends.
You may shocked when you see those pictures of the helmets because in most cases, the back of the helmet cracked. That means if you are not wearing a helmet, your head is going to absorb the full force of the impact. And any strong impact to the back of the head can only spell disaster. So don't take this lightly, wear your helmet when you ride.
If you don't have one, how do you choose a good helmet? Most helmets have been tested in labs to be able to cushion a strong impact during an accident. However, better quality helmets offer more comfort and reduce drag.
If you ride a road bike, stick to a road bike helmet. Road helmets are built more aerodynamically to reduce wind resistance. The frontal area of the helmet is more pointed so that wind travels smoothly to the back of the head. Besides, you will look better in a road helmet.
But if you already own a mountain bike helmet, you may just want to use the same helmet, especially if you are into leisure riding. Unless, of course, your mountain bike helmet is a full face helmet. Then you need to get something else. You certainly don't want to wear a full face helmet while riding a road bike. A full face helmet can prevent injuries to the face when you are riding in rough terrain on a mountain bike.

Guy trying to rip me off with dirt bike trade?
Guy is trying to trade a dirt bike to me which is worth 3.2k retail value by kbb for my brute force 750 which is worth 5.4k retail value kbb. He says he has a racing contract which can be signed over to the new over which sends them free gear like helmets, handlebars, shirts, etc.. he said he can get a trade in for 6k at a dealership but he doesn't want to add any money in with it so he wants to trade for mine. Can you transfer over a sponsership like that? I want to do it if you can because I can trade it for a new atv I've been wanting..
I can only state an opinion from personal experience with sponsors. I know my sons sponsors would be darn mad if he did something like what this person is suggeting and he even got a few words said to him when he was seen racing in the wrong brand gear at a minor event as his other gear was all wet on a very wet weekend. Sponsors don't like being tricked.
I don't know a lot about sponsorship in different countries and how it works but I certainly would not be taking this guy on his word. It is not the bike that is sponsored it is the rider. My son has to sign a contract with his sponsors and I believe it would be breach of contract if he does not abide by the terms. I very much doubt that it could be transferred to another rider without the sponsors okay and then it would be a new contract anyway
