Class C fires involve energized electrical equipment, such as wiring, controls, motors, machinery, and appliances.Recommended by Fire Experts for Proven ProtectionThe National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends at least one primary protection fire extinguisher for each level of the home. A primary protection fire extinguisher should have a fairly large capacity and must be UL Rated 2-A:10-B:C or higher. In addition to your primary protection, you should also have UL rated supplementary protection fire extinguishers for additional protection or specific hazards. You should not have to travel more than 40 feet to reach an extinguisher. After ensuring you have enough primary protection fire extinguishers, place 1-A:10-B:C rated multipurpose fire extinguishers as needed for supplementary protection in bedrooms and living areas. This supplementary protection fire extinguisher meets the recommendations and needs of: The National Fire Protection Association: the NFPA 10 Standard for Fire ExtinguishersUnderwriters Laboratories (UL): the independent testing lab for fire safety productsProfessionals: for more than 90 years, industry leaders, the military, airlines, and firefighters have relied on Kidde fire extinguishersThe Right Solution for an Emergency SituationIn an emergency situation, you need a proven technology: a UL-rated fire extinguisher with a handle, a visible pressure gauge, and enough size and capacity to put out a common fire. These features are what makes a fire extinguisher the tool of choice for true fire suppression. Many aerosol can fire products may not be as reliable for fire protection, because they have a short shelf life (only three years in many cases), they do not provide a gauge to verify readiness, and they aren't UL rated. If you are able to react to a small fire when it starts, chances are good that you can stop the fire with the right type of fire extinguisher. Always make sure your extinguisher is pressurized and close at hand for emergency use.Built to Last and Easy to UseThis Kidde Fire Extinguisher is durable and easy to use. The fire extinguisher is warranted for six years, and its metal pressure gauge helps ensure that the fire extinguisher is charged and ready for use. This extinguisher is durable and corrosion resistant, featuring a rust- and impact-resistant nylon handle and a light-but -durable aluminum cylinder. Even your mobile phones are a walking evidence of our want to have multi-purpose devices. Cell phone manufacturing companies sell their product with built-in cameras, internet accessibility, games and other features. You can practically do anything without leaving your homes with this piece of device.
Even in the world of fire fighting devices, we also need something that can be used in all sorts of fire. In case you are not aware, then you should know that fire has many source and not all extinguishers can stop them effectively and safely. Therefore, when you decide to buy this device, you should know is different types. However, the best way to know the best device to use at home is by looking at their fire extinguisher ratings.
This says it all. Their ratings indicate in what situation or sources of fire that you can use. If it is multi-rated, meaning you can use it to more than one type of fire. Since your homes are exposed to different sources of fire (e.g. papers, gas, electronics), the most practical solution is to select multi-rated devices. To get to know the basic markings check out the meaning below:
Class A- This means that the device should be used on ordinary combustible materials like paper, textiles, wood, plastics and other materials easily burned and combusted.
Class B- This means that the device can be used for fire caused by kerosene, oil, grease and gas. Anything that is in a barrel that is combustible by nature is compatible with this device.
Class C- This is used to indicate usability of the device for fires from electrical devices. If your computer is one fire, you can use this. Anything that deals with current can be compatible with this device.
Class D- This is used to indicate usability of the device from metals that are combustible. These are potassium, aluminum and other metals that are commonly used in the laboratories.
Multi-rated devices would mean that the fire extinguisher ratings can be Class A-B or B-C or it can be ABC. Therefore, look for these letters on the tank to see if they can be used to a wide range of fire sources. Better yet, ask the sales person so that they can give you options and explain further the usability of the device.
If you want multi-purpose, you can also get it when buying these devices. It is very agreeable, that we all buy the ones that have many uses. Not only is it practical but it can make you feel a lot safer when you know you can bring down small-scale fires easily.
Having specialized in the fire extinguisher ratings for over 20 years, Brian now works tirelessly to promote affordable fire safety for home and for business.
The Abc s Of Boat Equipment, Boat Supplies, and Marine Electronics
Boating is a great sport that can be enjoyed all year round in most parts of the country. Taking the boat out on the lake, a river or into the ocean is one of America’s favorite pastimes, full of fun and adventure. However, boating is serious business and any boater will tell you that you need adequate boating equipment, Boat Supplies, and marine electronics, to make sure that your outings are as safe as possible, for you and your passengers.
Everyone knows that there are a few essentials of boating equipment, like life preservers and other personal flotation devices. But did you know that there’s so much more that should be stored on every boat like various types of safety equipment? Let’s start with the basics.
The law requires that any passenger under the age of 12 must wear a personal flotation device while on an open boat deck of any kind. When it comes to purchasing personal flotation devices of any kind for your boat, there are several things to consider.
First, everyone on board must have a Life Jacket, child or adult, and those devices must be within easy reach. These flotation devices must be approved by the Coast Guard and bear their seal of approval. Lastly, these flotation devices must be in good condition.
Other kinds of essential boating equipment consist of a throw-able flotation device such as a floating donut or some buoyant item that can be used to keep a person afloat for an unlimited amount of time. Every boat longer than sixteen feet in length must have one of these on board or face fines. Ski belts don’t count. Another valuable marine electronics device to have on board is a VHF radio to communicate in the event of an emergency
Some flotation devices are designed to turn an unconscious person around in the water so that they are face up instead of face down, and are also effective for all types of water. Some flotation devices protect the wearer from hypothermia, while others are meant for sporting activities like skiing, sailing and fishing.
Other valuable boat supplies is a fire extinguisher. While many don’t think such would be necessary, with so much water around, engine fires require a certain type of extinguisher while cushions or interior cabin materials might require another. Boats more than twenty-six feet long are required to have at least one fire extinguisher on board. There are additional requirements for the installation of fire extinguishers on board, so check with state boating regulations to determine what those are before taking your boat out on the water.
Also keep in mind that boats with gasoline engine compartments must also be properly ventilated.
A sound device is also a necessary piece of boating equipment, most especially for boats that are over thirty-nine feet in length. Some sort of distress signal flare gun is also a good piece of boating equipment to have on hand, as is a first aid box and extra bedding and blankets in case of emergency. Boating is great fun, but can be dangerous if you don’t plan properly and carry the right kind of boating equipment that ensures the safety of both yourself and your crew or passengers

Fire extinguisher training while pregnant?
Is it safe to inhale the powder of an ABC extinguisher? I know it is non toxic but it is still getting into my lungs and my babies??
A little whiff now and then won't hurt you, however if you're going to be constantly working with the stuff I'd wear a dust mask. Monoammonium phosphate is the active ingredient, minimal health risk, more of an irritant than actual chemical hazard.
