Some people prefer to load their trailer at the company's terminal. If you want to do this, you can take your things to your trailer in the back of a pickup truck, or you can rent an "across town" moving van for the afternoon and shuttle your things over.

There are two things you may need to buy before you load the truck - the first is a tarp. Lay this down on the floor of your truck. Because your items will be going on a freight truck, it's possible that the floor may have residue on it. Mine didn't, but we still laid the tarp down. You'll probably also want a tarp to put over your boxes and possessions once you have them all loaded (unless you're using the entire trailer) because other goods will be loaded on, too.
Some ratcheting straps or a lot of nylon rope are the next thing you need. There will be anchor strips running along the walls of your trailer and it's a good idea to use the ratchet straps or rope to help anchor your things in place.
Pack the truck securely and evenly. You'll purchase truck space by the foot (we used 10 feet of space in our trailer). Pack so that your things fill the space evenly, then secure with rope or ratcheting strap. The it's time to close the truck up and call the company to let them know they can pick up the trailer.
You can track the progress of your trailer across the country via your computer. When the trailer has arrived at its destination terminal, the company will let you know and you can arrange to have it dropped off at your new home. Unload, and let the company know you're done. Now it's time to unpack everything!
We had a good experience with packing and loading ourselves, then letting someone else drive. It gave us the luxury of bringing the family in the van without worrying about having one of us driving the van and the other driving a moving truck. To practice safety habits, use the rule of thumb "torque and check your wheel nuts".
3. Grease the bearings: For trailers with EZ Lube Hubs or Buddy Bearings, it is important to grease the bearings with proper wheel-bearing grease. The wrong grease may not circulate enough and can end up starving the bearings. So make sure you ask your trailer maintenance technician or refer to the trailer manual for the correct grease you should use on your trailer bearings.
4. Check your brakes: While you are checking and testing the brakes and tires, please make sure the trailer is off the ground. Trailer brakes do not automatically adjust, so it's important to check and adjust if needed. To adjust, pull the cover, and adjust the brake adjusters with a screwdriver. If you find that your breaks are old and rusty, contact your trailer maintenance technician for assistance and next steps. 5. Check your lights: After you have followed the above trailer maintenance tips, make sure your lights are working by doing a proper circle check with your running lights. What are the chances that this might fall off my car on highway?
Traveling with a 28' extension ladder to and from work 30 mins to 1 hour on highway and 6 days a week....i have a SUV. With this on my car strapped securely with ratchet tie downs, what are the chances of it coming off when me driving?? that is my worst fear as of now lol
