Bakersfield, California - (March 29-30, 2008) Driver Tyler McQuarrie in the CWest S2000 dominated the competition this weekend to take home 1st place in the RWD Unlimited Class and the title of Overall Grand Champion, in the 2008 REDLINE Time Attack event at Button Willow Raceway Park. His winning time was an astonishing 1:48.829 on configuration, lucky number 13.

Conditions seemed promising on Saturday with temperatures in the mid 70s, low 80s as drivers from all across Southern California took to the tarmac to perfect their race lines and fine tune their vehicles. Saturday was also a amazing opportunity for spectators and Time Attack fans alike to do some laps in an adrenaline charged, high speed ride-along with some of the series' top drivers. "I went in with a white shirt, and came out brown" said Time Attack fanatic, Greg Wiist after spinning at nearly 90mph off the track into the dirt field on his ride-along in a top-less Mazda Miata.

Sunday definitely proved to be a test of skill, as drivers battled cold track conditions and harsh desert winds for much of the morning practice session. Only those able to adapt were left standing. After drivers had a few hours to warm up, the official REDLINE Time Attack session began. Each of the 9 divisions were sent out in groups of 5-9 cars and given one warm-up lap, then three hot laps to run the fastest time possible.

Hoosier Racing Tire and Daytona International Speedway

TOLEDO, Ohio) - ARCA, Hoosier Racing Tire and Daytona International Speedway have jointly announced dates for both the December Hoosier tire test and the January ARCA-sanctioned open test, following the 2.5-mile superspeedway's recent re-paving.

Discount Hoosier Tires will be on site at Daytona Friday, December 17 to conduct tire testing to determine the tire that teams will race on in the February 12 Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 season opener for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards. The tire selected based on the December test will be available to teams electing to participate in the annual ARCA-sanctioned open test, which traditionally takes place in mid-December at Daytona but will instead take place in January 2011.

"We're thrilled to have race cars back on the track at Daytona," said Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III. "The new racing surface is very smooth and should produce multiple racing grooves for thrilling door-to-door action. This test session will provide Hoosier Tire the opportunity to collect important data to produce a great racing tire for the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 during Speedweeks 2011."

The ARCA-sanctioned open test, originally scheduled for December 2010, will be moved back on the calendar to allow for the tire test and production of tires by Hoosier. The open test for teams in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will take place at Daytona International Speedway on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, January 11-13, 2011.

Both the December and January testing sessions will be free and open to the public with access to the Oldfield Grandstands through the lobby of the Daytona International Speedway ticket office.

"Any time you manage the variables of compounds and construction on a new surface, there are unknowns," said Doug Barnes, Hoosier Product Manager. "Based on our recent experience with the repaving at Talladega Superspeedway, which has a lot of similar characteristics as Daytona, we're expecting a vast difference in smoothness and grip of the racing surface. The December test will allow us to gather the on-track data we need to return with the best possible tire for the January open test and the race in February."

The ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 28 states since its inception. The series tests the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, annually visiting tracks ranging from 0.4 mile to 2.66 miles in length, on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as left- and right-turn street and road courses.

Founded by John Marcum in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is recognized among the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. Closing in on completing its sixth decade after hundreds of thousands of miles of racing, ARCA administers over 100 race events each season in two professional touring series and local weekly events.

Goodyear tires, is that all they offer for NASCAR ?

In support of Tony Stewart's comments on Goodyear tires, I myself belong to the oldest speedway in Michigan , Whittemore Speedway,it is a 1/4 mile track started out Dirt but is now Black-top with a banking similar to Datona on somewhat smaller scale, that being told, What is wrong with going to Hoosier's on the short tracks?

Hoosier released a statement last week that they are not interested in NASCAR. Besides, Goodyear has a contract to be the only provider through 2012.
Finally, the tire wars in the early 90s were a dangerous time. Read up on Neil Bonnett who crashed due to a Hoosier tire failure during the wars http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Bonnett
And Ernie Irvan nearly suffered the same fate in 1994 with a Goodyear failure. Here is Irvan's bio: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernie_Irvan The tire wars were dangerous and crash filled.
