White Man's Burden imagines an America where black people are the ruling class and whites are underprivileged minorities. John Travolta stars as a factory worker who is fired after making a delivery to the house of the factory owner (Harry Belafonte) and accidentally peeping the man's naked wife through a window. Now jobless and unable to support his family, his wife (Kelly Lynch) leaves him. In desperation he kidnaps Belafonte. The best part of the film is seeing African American actors filling the smaller, background roles that usually go to white actors (such as police officers and wealthy suburbanites), but the movie fails in its poorly thought-out ideas. Transposing the characters' skin color out of the thinly veiled metaphor, John Travolta's portrayal of the poor black man as violent and uneducated (but family oriented), combined with Belafonte's rich white man as just and compassionate (and also family oriented), borders on being truly offensive. The fact that it's helmed by an Asian American director, Desmond Nakano, only makes you wonder why Asian Americans are conspicuously absent (as are Hispanics) and where the heck they would fit into this world, anyway. --Andy Spletzer |

Almost all the women I've worked with have trouble saying no. It's a
common issue for us females as we've been generally raised and socialized to please and fit in. Often times we associate saying no with horrible consequences - the ending of relationships, anger, someone not liking us - and so there's a little bit (or even a huge amount) of fear associated with saying no. And when we do say no, we feel like we have to explain our entire life's situation just to make saying no OK.
Here's a revolutionary idea - NO is a great freedom
producing, boundary setting, taking care of myself kind of word, and, there is
no need for excuses when I say no! Believe it? If you're skeptical or know
already that saying no is not your greatest strength, then read on for the 5
easy ways to incorporate saying no in your life. Bumper sticker - NO = freedom!
1. Determine when to say NO. Believe it or not women so regularly say
yes, that they're not so clear when to say no. Figuring this out requires you to
listen to yourself. When someone asks you to do something or asks you for
something, check with your Self - is this something you want to do or give? Most
times when we're listening we can clearly hear a resounding yes or no from our
Self. If you're not sure, then it's OK to say 'I don't know' and then get back
to that person when you do.
2. Just say NO. Go ahead, say it. Someone asks you for lunch. You're
really not that interested for whatever reason. Say no. OK, maybe you want to
fluff it up a bit so it's no so cold sounding. How 'bout:
- Unfortunately I'm just not available for get-togethers right now
- Thanks for asking, but I can't commit to that right now
- I appreciate your thought, but I'm not planning lunches out right
now
3. Resist the urge to explain.
While there may be times when an explanation
is useful or necessary, often times we simply give way more information than we
need in hopes that it will soften the NO. Most of the time you don't have to
give an explanation at all.
4. Repeat yourself like a broken record. When you
begin to say no there are some people in your life who won't believe you. You
may get challenged as to why you cannot or will not do something. Remember, you
do not need to explain. Saying no is enough. Just repeat your initial statement
- over and over if necessary.
5. State what you are willing to do (if anything).
If you feel that you can respond with an alternative then do so; however, it is
not necessary. Make sure that if you offer an alternative it is something that
you truly are OK with and you are not offering it as a way to feel better about
saying NO.
6. Bonus Tip! Leave emotion out of it. Sometimes we may feel angry
that people ask us for things or won't take no for an answer. Consider this -
you have trained these people how to treat you! Really, you have. They may be
rude people, but it is you who are allowing the behavior to continue. It's not
fair to get angry at the people you've so considerately trained. Just
consistently say no, without anger, and you'll train them to your new boundaries.
Here's a sample, just in case you're still not sure how this works.
A
- Hi Bea. I'm calling because I need some help on the school fundraising
committee and you've been so helpful before. Our meeting is tomorrow; will you
be there?
Bea - No, I won't be there, but I wish you well in fundraising this
year.
A - Well, I was really hoping that you could take over the coordination
this year. You're so good at it and none of the other parents have time. You're
my last hope.
Bea - Thanks for the compliment, but I can't take that on this
year.
A - I just don't know what I'll do then. I've talked with everyone else
and you're the only person I know who will do a good job.
Bea - I appreciate
your confidence and I can't help with fundraising this year. I'd be happy give
Jane a call and see if she's interested. She's really good at organization.
A - Well, OK. I'm just sorry you don't want to be involved.
Bea - OK then, I'll call
Jane now and have her call you if she's interested. Thanks for calling.

Angelou said it well - "I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a
catcher's mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw some things back."Got it? Great! Saying NO is one of the best ways that a woman can
take care of herself. While you may feel that saying no is selfish, it really
is about taking extraordinary care of yourself. If you are not taking care of
yourself, then you just don't have it to give to others - you can't water a
garden with an empty bucket!
So go out now and practice. If this is a big issue
for you, then find some easy folks to say no to. Then, practice, practice,
practice. You will develop your own words and phrases that are comfortable for
you. It will get easier, just like learning any new skill. There really is
power in just saying NO!

Volvo’s Beautiful Cross Family
2007 is such an amazing year for Volkswagen not only because its CrossPolo and CrossGolf are doing well in terms of sales, but also because their sporty all-rounder version of the Touran is likewise revving up orders. As a matter of fact, Volkswagen’s German partners are now taking orders for this latest addition to the Cross family. Sales and advance orders to date are pouring in which simply shows that this series is a favorite amongst customers. One out of ten Polos comes from this special edition series.
The third member of the Cross family is currently made available for order since the beginning of the year- the Volkswagen CrossTouran. This vehicle is not only strikingly styled but has become a practical and lifestyle-oriented vehicle. The Touran is a front-wheel drive and boasts of major new features which include additional ground clearance of approximately 12 millimeters plus a variety of visible body elements.
Some of the vehicle’s notable features are its new front spoiler which comes in a “matte chrome” look, silver-anodized roof rails and dark headlamp mounts, lower bumper sections, side skirts, wheel arches and side protective molding that made extra strong high quality composite materials.
The Touran is also loaded with impressive standard equipment package and top-of-the-line Volkswagen accessories which includes both fog lights as well as range of interior details such as the one-of-a-kind CrossTouran steering wheel in perforated leather, the fold-down passenger-seat backrest with table and through-load feature, and of course the folding tables on the backs of the front seats.
Another stunning feature of the vehicle is the mixed tire arrangement wherein it combines 6.5-inch wide and 17 inch diameter alloy wheels with 215/50 tires at the front . For its back tires it has combined 8-inch wide, 17-inch alloy wheels with 235/45 tires just to give it that unique visual appeal.
The Touran is available in color schemes ranging from “Candy White” to “Deep Black” and an exclusive “Red Rock Metallic”. For its interior colors customers has a choice between orange/grey and the more subtle “latte macchiato”.
Volkswagen for its European market launching in spring of 2007 will incorporate three petrol driven engines and three TDIs (standard fitted with diesel particulate filter) with outputs ranging from 75kW to 125kW. The 125 kW TSI Twincharger with standard DSG is expected to grab the spotlight. Volkswagen will offer the CrossTouran for as little as 24,743.79 euros.
Cross for Freedom, Fun and Adventure
The special Cross family of Volkswagen exudes visual appeal of an off-roader with the comfort of a sedan. Although distinct from each other the Cross vehicles share common robust exterior and additional ride height.
According to Christoph Stürmer, analyst at Frankfurt-based market-intelligence specialists Global Insight, “This model strategy demonstrates that Volkswagen is right up-to-date. Cars like the CrossTouran offer the psychological advantages of an off-roader and have a huge appeal to customers because they communicate the feeling of dependability." In short, Stürmer just want to point out that the comfort of the Cross is brought about by its muscular styling, true and tested technology plus its superior outward visibility which is made possible by the high seat position that it possess.
The Volkswagen Cross Family takes its roots in the Polo Fun launched in December of 2003. Its first production of the Cross was sold out in a matter of months. The year 2006 saw the birth of an entire new series with the launching of the CrossPolo in January. Volkswagen was confident that it will become a hit amongst customers but just the same the unit sales figures came as a surprised for them. As a matter of fact, even the marketing specialists at Volkswagen were amazed when they saw the sales figures. The Cross was such a phenomenal success in Germany that one out of ten Polos sold is a Cross model.
The CrossGolf which was first shown at the September Paris Motor Show will be put on sale in December. The CrossTouran which was unveiled at the Bologna Motor Show completes the Cross family. Replacing the grill: 1999 Chrysler Concorde LXi?
I would like to modify the grill on my 1999 Chrysler Concorde LXi. I would like to remove the black plastic cross pieces and replace them with a Chrome Mesh, however I need to remove the entire grill in order to properly make my modifications. Anyone know if I have to remove the bumper or not? If I do, please let me know and tell me where the screws and mounts are. If you have never worked with the bumper on a 1999 Chrysler Concorde, please do not answer. I do not want guesses, but answers. Thanks!
the best thing to do would be to buy a repair manual at autozone or any auto parts store. I have a 1998 chrysler concorde but it's grille has never been removed
