Here are some more information for Cobb Tuning Accessport:

The Cobb Tuning SF intake for the WRX or STi utilizes custom design with several unique features for optimal flow, and performance. The SF intake design minimizies turbulence that can cause engine management problems. Starting with a custom conical cloth air filter, Cobb uses a CFD-designed velocity stack, and unique air flow straightener grid. Cobb's straightener grid is specifically designed to smooth the incoming air flow as it passes the Mass Air Flow sensor for precise readings.
In return this eliminates dead spots caused by intake turbulence. There is no other aftermarket WRX or STi intakes that utilizes these critical design elements. Not only does this Cobb SF system looks as good as it functions, Cobb utilized a one piece plastic high temperature composite plastic body.
This save weight, prevents heat soak, keeps incoming air cooler, and eliminates any unsightly welds or other fasteners that distract from a clean appearance. You will not find a more researched and developed short ram intake for your WRX and STi than the Cobb SF intake. The COBB Tuning SF Intake system is the only intake on the market compatible with the Stage 1 and Stage 2 Cobb Accessport maps. The Cobb intake system has a clean finish with a custom designed Cobb Blue cloth conical filter which has been pre-oiled. Cobb filter are serviceable with an available cleaning/oiling kit and does not need to be replaced for the entire lifespan of your WRX or STi. Cobb SF intake also includes a powdercoated black support bracket for secure installation.
Features:
- Provides optimal flow, and performance
- Specifically designed to smooth the incoming air flow
- Eliminates dead spots
- Prevents heat soak
- Billet CNC 6061-T6 aluminum intake
- The most researched and developed intake out there for the WRX and STi
- Compatible with the Stage 1 and Stage 2 Cobb Accessport maps

Turboing the Toyota FT-86
Since we know that the FT-86 is the normally aspirated version of the Subaru Impreza WRX motor, we know it is possible to be turboed. We just don’t know where we might have to put the turbo in the engine bay. Speculation has come up on many Toyota FT-86 forums about how easy it will be to turbo this car. Well the new Legacy GT might have just solved that problem for future Toyota FT-86 owners.
The legacy GT uses an equal length exhaust manifold with the turbo mounted under neath the engine. This is different than the standard Subaru Impreza WRX/STI as they (at least in the US) use an unequal length exhaust manifold that has an uppipe putting the turbo next to the intercooler in the engine bay. This is not the most optimal setup as it generates additional engine bay heat and requires more piping to the turbo. Using the Legacy GT exhaust manifold will save room in the engine bay and will most likely be more efficient by placing the turbo closer to the hotter exhaust gasses.
The downside to this could be for people looking to make big power. It is unsure how big of a turbo can be placed under the engine before clearance becomes an issue. Though with the estimated weight of the FT-86 being under 3000 pounds, a stock Impreza turbo might be enough to satisfy the average tuner. The other possible downside is that you will most likely loose the distinctive Boxer Motor rumble that is the signature sound of the WRX. Although maybe having a Toytoa emblem might make not having the Boxer rumble an issue.
The other issues to contend with are the stock engine compression and the ECU. The compression issue may result in lower levels of boost, but can be overcome by using WRX or aftermarket WRX internals. An easy fix, but costly as well. In regards to the ECU, if it is Subaru based, it may give a head start to companies like Cobb Tuning who may be able to alter their AccessPort product to work with the FT-86 allowing for the computer to be optimized for a turbo application. If it is a new ECU though, it may be a while in development before Engine Tuning is possible, but with the expected popularity of this car, we will eventually see many options for ECU tuning and will most likely have complete turbo solutions available as well.
