Finished Building The Bottom Half of My 350. Should I Let Oil Sit In The Cylinders Over Night To Lubricate 'Em?
Got the pistons/rods, crank, cam, chain/sprockets, timing cover, oil pump etc... put together. Now I just gotta build the top half of it (heads, lifters, intake, carb, spark plugs, distributor etc...). But I'm gunna do that tomorrow.
Since I just put the new pistons/rings into each cylinder, should I put some oil into each cylinder and let it sit overnight for lubricating purpose? I heard that will be a good idea.
What would you recommend? Thanks
I agree with Shaun.
You oil it from top down, you will screw up your top ring and hone job and rings may never seat.
When installing pistons, I wet a lint free rag with MMO and wipe into each cyl before installing the piston
Then just cover the short block with an engine bag if it must sit with heads off.
No I have to point out that Shaun mentioned cam thrust button. That is not needed with a flat tappet cam, as the lifters riding on the lobes sets the end play and keeps cam from walking
A roller cam needs the thrust button for sure though
