Viva Las Vegas [Blu-ray] List Price: $19.98 Sale Price: $7.45 |
|
It's pretty tough to beat Jailhouse Rock in terms of sheer entertainment, but Elvis lovers are particularly fond of this 1964 hit. The Big E plays race-car driver Lucky Jackson, who arrives in Las Vegas for an upcoming Grand Prix race. Lucky's car needs a new engine, so he gets a waiter job at a casino and starts working his crooning charms on Rusty Martin (Ann-Margret). It's their on-screen chemistry that makes this flick a lot of fun; Presley never had a better costar than Ann-Margret, and their race-car romance is quintessential 1960s fluff. Then there are the songs, of course, including the snappy title tune, a rockin' rendition of Ray Charles's "What'd I Say?," and "The Yellow Rose of Texas." Viva Las Vegas is one of the Elvis movies that stands the test of time, when the legend was still at his peak. And if you're wondering if the King gets his car fixed in time to win the race, well, check out the movie to find out. --Jeff Shannon In one of his biggest and best films, Elvis Presley is "just a devil with love to spare" as a race car driver looking to enter the Las Vegas Grand Prix and romancing sexy Ann-Margret. With Cesare Danova, William Demarest, and the great Jack Carter as himself. Songs include "The Lady Loves Me," "What'd I Say," and the title tune. 85 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English; Subtitles: English, French; featurette; more. |

Fast Company [Blu-ray] List Price: $19.98 Sale Price: $11.86 |
|
An early departure from director David Cronenberg's canon of visceral horror, 1979's Fast Company profiles one of his personal passions, racecars, in a gritty melodrama that also features exciting racetrack footage. Veteran toughguy William Smith is top-billed as a champion drag racer who clashes with the unscrupulous oil-company executive (John Saxon) who sponsors his team. Though lacking the gruesome clinical obsessions of his horror features (Cronenberg admits on the disc's commentary that the film was a tax shelter for its Canadian producers), Fast Company is also fascinated with internal machinery (here, car engines instead of human bodies), and it's easily Cronenberg's most approachable film, with plenty of automotive action alongside the solid performances (the cast includes B-movie queen Claudia Jennings in her final performance). --Paul Gaita Studio: Wea-des Moines Video Release Date: 05/19/2009 |

Here are some more information for Car Drag Racing:

The cost of a car club depends on what the benefits are going to be when you join. Most of organizations like this do not offer much at all and others offer a garage to work with your cars in. there are many factors that go in to determining the cost for a monthly or annual fee of a car club. Most of the time it will cost anywhere from 5 dollars a month to 50 dollars a year to belong to a decent group. That is really good considering how many people are going to be in the car club and how many are already in it. If you want to be in an organization that is free then you should just make up your own. Nothing is free in the day that we live in not even water.
If you are in a club that is just about tuners then you probably won't have to pay anything or at the most like 5 dollars. With a high end car club, for example if you are in a Supra club, it can get to be expensive but you are also driving a 100,000 dollar car. If you are in a high end car club then you should not be worried about the cost of the group I would be more worried about my car. A lot of high end clubs also just meet in parking lots to talk and chat they are not even really groups, just get-togethers.
A lot of organizations are made and formed to host car shows or even racing. There will be a drag strip and a track at these types of organizations and you will see why the track and drag strip is there. You will see cars from twin turbo Supras to little trucks that just have air bag suspension under them. There are many things to be witnessed at a car show that is being hosted by an organization.
If you are paying for your membership to be in a car club then you should be getting a shirt and some kind of newsletter or something. You might have a sticker on your windshield instead of a shirt because your car might be your shirt and the sticker is your pass. There are many things to consider when you are joining a group.
You will most of the time get free stuff when you join a car club like shirts, stickers, and just stuff that makes you rep the car club. If you want to be in the group you need to represent them in some way that is why they give you a shirt and a sticker to put on your windshield usually. If you don't like the car club that you are in now then you should go find one that you like. The kind of car club that you should be in should be the one where people are nice and want to talk and meet with you.

Classic Car News: The Race Is On To Be Retro
It doesn't matter if you enjoy historic motoring from the driver's seat or the comfort of an armchair, race Retro has something for every enthusiast with a classic vehicle. RaceRetro.com have reported that "over 24,000 visitors agree that Race Retro is Europe's premier historic racing show, covering classic cars and bikes from eight decades of rallying and motorsport history".
"The first dragster ever built in the UK is undergoing restoration", according to PistonHeads.com and is reported that the rally car, which is being held in the collection of the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, is apparently in "good cosmetic condition", and is being restored to running order thanks to the efforts of the "Allard Chrysler Action Group".
The Allard Chrysler, which was retired from drag racing in 1964, has fortunately been kept under cover ever since as an exhibition piece, until Brian Taylor became aware of the drag car and obtained permission for him and the rest of the Allard Chrysler Action Group to restore it.
This spectacular historic classic car has been seen by many who have attended the Silverstone Classic or Greenwood Revival events; however another chance to catch up with it is at the Race Retro event at Stoneleigh Park in Coventry this coming weekend.
The ACAG (Allard Chrysler Action Group) is still looking for funds to help with the restoration of such a legendary car, so if you want to help out you can support the worthy cause and even donate parts.
RaceRetro.com has reported that the event will help celebrate "Alfa-Romeo's centenary, the 30th anniversary of Audi Quattro and 60 years since Norton's Featherbed frame made its debut". The event will apparently have "the stars and the cars", with famous motoring legends such as Bruno Giacomelli and Barry ‘Whizzo' Williams, as well as a unique opportunity to watch some of these legends drive the cars they are synonymous with.
Also to prove how dedicated the event is to classic cars, you get preferential parking if you bring your vintage pride and joy along with you and you can tuck it away into an allocated parking area.
