Just look at all those hot features! Shimano packed this reel with a lot more "bells, buzzers, and whistlers" than the old one. The new Magnumlite spool is one of the best features of this Curado. This spool has extremely thin walls which, of course, make it very light. It is also reinforced to make it tough enough to fight bigger fish than you'd want to tangle with. High Efficiency Gearing (HEG), which makes this reel so powerful, is in many newer Shimano's now and I am very glad to see it implemented into the new Curado. Another feature that I love is the clicking drag wheel which allows you to adjust the drag pressure with ultra precision. The handle knobs on this reel have more grip to them, thanks to Septon, and have a larger profile to make it easier to crank when landing big fish. Last but not least, the recessed reel foot makes this reel sit lower on the rod and thus, easier to palm. These are just the new features that the older model didn't have. One thing Shimano kept the same is the Curado's legendary reliability, which is what has made this reel so popular for both novice and expert anglers.
On the downside, the new model took a jump in price from the old model; and because of that, some anglers have said goodbye. However, all the new features are definitely worth the extra money. One other thing that some might find disappointing is the added weight. Personally, I don't have a problem with a couple extra added ounces, but for those who do, there is a 100 size Curado that would be the perfect fix.
