The Chevrolet Spark met with reasonable success in the Indian car market, thanks to its packaging and VFM price tag. General Motors uses the same recipe for the modern Beat, whose aggressive pricing triggered off a price war in the B segment. The Beat has been designed by GM Daewoo (South Korea). Owners report that build quality is decidedly better than the tinny Marutis, and on par with Hyundai. The car does feel more solid than its direct competitors. The Chevy Beat wears bold clothes in a crowded market segment. The front end, especially, is attention grabbing with the large split grille, Chevy bowtie and rakish headlamps.
Equally radical is the side profile with uniquely placed door handles and a sharp roof cut. To the casual observer, the Beat nearly passes off as a two door car! On the other hand, the rear end wears a straight-forward design, with chromed circular lights being the only highlight. Opinions were overall split on this front-heavy design; some liked it, others detested it. The 7 spoke alloy wheels look great, albeit the tyre size (155/70 R14) is simply too puny. Carrying on the unusual exterior theme, the interiors are rather distinctive for the segment. Owners state that the swoopy dashboard, and the motorcycle-inspired meter arrangement, stands out.
To the right of the speedometer is a rectangular digital display that houses the rpm meter and fuel gauge. The tilt-adjustable steering wheel is a three spoke design with contours to park your thumbs on. It's slightly larger than one would expect in a small hatchback, yet first-class to hold. Overall fit and finish are good by segment standards, the Beat not feeling like a cheap hatchback at all (save for the odd plastic part). Space at the front is generous, while the low driving position feels sporty. Our reviewers are quick to add that the dashboard is positioned too high, and shorter drivers will definitely face visibility issues.
Room at the rear is sufficient and the Beat can comfortably carry 4 persons. Legroom is about the same as the Hyundai i10 & the Maruti Ritz. On the flip side, the rear seat's narrow width makes it best for 2 (and not 3). Also, the high door sill, small rear windows and the lack of quarter glasses make for a claustrophobic ambience. The front seats are large and scored well on lateral / back support. The rear bench is comfortable enough, though under-thigh support is poor. The Beat's interiors have ample storage spots, cubby holes and large bottle holders.

The 9Th Generation Lancer
The Mitsubishi Lancer first hit the streets in 1973. Over the past three decades the Lancer has evolved into a sports machine like no other, turning heads on city streets and rally courses alike. After nine generations of development, MMC's passion for driving has created a blend of power, performance and aerodynamics. Mitsubishi Motors Research and Development's concept for the Lancer EX is to have a commanding appearance, which is characterized by a highly refined sporty sedan design. MMC's R&D team worked toward bringing these concepts to life at every stage in the development. It was essential to develop styling that would clearly assert itself even within the extremely competitive compact sedan segment, a commanding appearance that will make heads turn and a character that would be instantly recognizable even from afar.
"Top of the Line" LANCER EX GTA is a compact sedan like no other. Equipped with Dual Stage 7-airbag system, Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), High Intensity Discharge (HID). Punctuated by the side air dams, rear spoilers and top of its class 18-inch wheels.
This 6-speed INVECS-III CVT Transmission with Sportronic didn't left any stone unturned, having a Rockford Fosgate Premium Audio System, Magnesium Alloy Paddle Shifters, Auto Rain Wiper Sensor and Auto Lighting Control.
The all-new Lancer EX features an all-new 4B11 engine. This new DOHC engine is 27 kilos lighter than its predecessor, due to its all-aluminum engine block and composite valve cover. MIVEC technology (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing Electronic Control) controls cam phasing/timing of both intake and exhausts cams, which results to high performance, good fuel economy, and a fatter power and torque band. Maximum power for this EURO 2 compliant engine is 155 PS at 6,000 rpm and maximum torque of 199 Newton-meter is achieved at 4,250 rpm.
Jet fighter-inspired front grille and slim headlight design contributes to the sporty character and confident stance, add also the Aggressive Front Face and Aerodynamic bodylines plus Projector Type High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps with Multi-reflector Adaptive Front-Lighting System.
The Lancer EX's Interior is centered on the driver, including an intuitive cockpit layout, dynamic carbon fiber-accent design, automotive repair manuals and inviting racing-style red information display and function controls. Paddle shifters and audio controls have also been incorporated within the steering area, giving you the control you want without ever needing to take your eyes off the road ahead.
Mitsubishi Motors has also raised the bar inside the all-new Lancer EX. When you sit on the Lancer EX GT-A's sport type seats, you will first notice 3-spoke leather wrapped steering wheel with integrated audio controls and magnesium alloy paddle shifters similar to the Outlander. The dashboard is complemented with a carbon-look accent strip and haynes repair manuals, which stretches from side to side. All the controls, dials of the auto-climate system, and buttons have been simplified and well located offering an uncluttered personal space. Beyond the steering wheel, two sporty analog gauges flank the multi-information display monitor that displays the odometer, trip meters, outside temperature, engine coolant temperature, fuel level, average fuel economy, kilometer range, maintenance reminder, and a thoughtful rest reminder.

What are the D3, D2, and D1 actually used for in an auto transmission?
I have a 2009 Honda Civic with an auto tranny. I usually just drive in the "D" mode but am wondering what the D3, 2, and 1 are actually for. Since I'm not a fan of driving an automatic, is it possible if I could use the D3, 2, and 1 as a manual gearbox (without a clutch)? For example, when starting from rest, I would shift into D1, shift into D2 at an rpm level I want (not some computer), and then finally into D3?
My question basically is what the D1-3 are actually made for? Are they actually made for what I am using them for? I didn't do what I mentioned above for too long but noticed that the car was SUCKING gas and the meter was falling down rapidly.
Thanks all!
everyone basically answerd the question, but hondas are known to take 5000-10000km before the engine would 'break-in', so before that the fuel consumption would be really high
The best hatchbacks in India
There are reasons behind the popularity of hatchbacks in India. They are the least expensive to buy, economical to maintain, easy to drive on crowded Indian roads, and take less space to park due to their size.
