Jeremy Allen Mayfield who was born on May 27 in 1969 at Owensboro, Kentucky. As a young boy he was a big fan of BMX bicycles and he gradually moved up to go-karts. While he was ripping it off at the tracks, Mayfield graduated to the Nashville Speedway by the time he was 19. Although he was driving, Mayfield was also a fabricator for Sadler Bros. Racing. In 1987, he became their driver and won the Late Model Rookie of the Year when he competed at Kentucky Motor Speedway.
When he was 24, Mayfield decided give the ARCA a go which proved to be a good choice as he clinched the Rookie of the Year honor. This was the same year he debuted on the Cup scene with a 29th finish at the Mello Yello 500. Just a year later he was named NASCAR Winston Cup Series Rookie of the Year. He had a difficult time in 1995 while still adjusting to his schedule and had a best finish at Rockingham with 19th place. A year later he ,managed to get the 8th place at the Miller Genuine Draft 500 with a 31st spot finish in points.
In 1996 he got his first career pole at the DieHard 500 and two top fives with a 26th position in points. The next season he got his first career high with 13th place in points after eight top-tens and two top-five wins. He also won his first career race at Pocono 500 and by the time he was done that season, he had a 7th position in points. 1999 was not as good as the previous years were for him when he went down to 11th spot. Things seemed to turn around the next year after winning four poles and two races but because he was found to have violated a rule, one pole was taken from him. That season saw him at the 24th spot unfortunately. He also suffered from a serious concussion that season from a crash in the practice round for the Brickyard 400 where he crashed horribly into a wall.
Although he started off 2001 relatively well with two third place finishes, his skills seemed to have decreased slightly. He did better in 2002 with four top tens and a 26th finish in points. The next year he won the pole at Aaron's 499 and had 12 top tens with the 19th spot in his pocket. He got his lucky break back in 2004 when he managed to win the Chevy Rock and Roll 400 which gave him the opportunity to take part in the Chase for the Cup where he finished in tenth spot for points.
He also won the GFS Marketplace 400 in 2005 with ninth spot in place and the next year he managed to finish 22nd on the Kansas Speedway. Besides that, Mayfield has to date had 36 Busch starts with a best finish at Rockingham in 2003. He's also been involved the Craftsman Truck Series three times. The involvement he has had in those races goes to show that Mayfield is not averse to spreading his racing wings over other major events as well.
Mayfield has been quoted as getting ready to take on 2008. Although he was faced with the possibility of not racing during many weekends in 2007, Mayfield is hoping that drought would change for the coming season in 2008. As he has just started driving for Haas CNC Racing and is currently lining up to drive the #70 car we will probably witness more winnings for Mayfield in the future.

Over the past few years, I have examined the effectiveness of Alcoholics Anonymous and a lively discussion has followed these posts. AA is a group that many have very strong feelings about - both positive and negative. For some, AA has been a life-saver and allowed them to manage their addictions, while for others, the experience has not been as positive, and, in fact, has been quite horrible. Based on all of the heated discussions, I wanted to take a moment and provide information on the top 10 alternatives to Alcoholics Anonymous and the other 12-Step programs that I have found on the internet for alcoholism and addiction support. I hope these will be helpful to those out there that are looking for a new (or additional) support group solution to managing your or a loved one's addictive behaviors.

Harm Reduction: A harm reduction program empowers people to choose their own goal—safer drinking, reduced drinking, or quitting. It engages people with realistic goals which they can actually accomplish, and does not label people as "diseased" or "alcoholic". HAMS views excessive drinking as a maladaptive coping strategy. There are 17 "elements" of HAMS, which you can do in any order, are optional, you get to pick and choose which ones work for you. Harm reduction is a set of practical strategies intended to reduce the negative consequences of high risk behaviors such as overdrinking or drug use. Harm reduction is a nonjudgmental approach that attempts to meet people "where they are at" with their drinking or drug use. Instead of demanding perfect abstinence, this pragmatic approach is supportive of anyone who wishes to minimize the harm associated with a high risk behavior such as drinking or drug use. LifeRing Secular Recovery: LifeRing is a network of support groups for people who want to be free of alcohol and addictive drugs. Alcohol abuse is treated as a bio-psycho-social condition, rather than a "spiritual disease", where the physical component is treated with medication, which eliminates the physical cravings, so you can then deal with the psychological and social components of the addiction, changing the way you think about certain things and the social habits you spent your whole life developing. The group believes that individuals are on their own in staying sober, so there are no meetings or treatment centers as part of the approach, nor is there any counseling, therapy, psychology or spirituality. Women for Sobriety: Women For Sobriety, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping women overcome alcoholism and other addictions. Their "New Life" program is based upon a Thirteen Statement Program of positivity that encourages emotional and spiritual growth. WFS believes that drinking or using began to overcome stress, loneliness, frustration, emotional deprivation, or any number of other kinds of harassment from which dependence and addiction resulted. They believe that this physiological addiction can only be overcome by abstinence, and that mental and emotional addiction are overcome with the knowledge of self that is gained through this program. Members live by the WFS philosophy: Forget the past, plan for tomorrow, and live today. The website provides additional information about the group, the thirteen statements of the program, and links to find groups in your area. They also have a "Men for Sobriety".
16-Step for Discovery and Empowerment Model: This is a holistic approach to overcoming addiction that views people in their entirety-mind, body and spirit. Created by Charlotte Kasl, Ph.D., this 16-step model helps people to develop ego strength which is seen as having a healthy ability to be introspective and to ask oneself the questions: "Who am I? What do I value, believe and want?" Addiction is seen as complex, encompassing social factors, physical factors, pre-disposition and personal history. This method believes that a major task in recovering from addiction is to validate the underlying, positive survival goals for safety, connection, pleasure, love and power that using used to accomplish, and then to find non-addictive and positive ways to meet those needs. The steps are about taking charge of your life, and rebuilding your self-esteem and self-worth. The steps are quite powerful.
So, here I provided you with the top TEN alternative self-help groups that are available to you. But there are other alternatives as well that have nothing to do with having to attend a group for help. These are alternative methods that have proved to work well for people with alcohol or drug problems, and they can be found in my book, "AA Not the Only Way," 2nd Edition, along with a complete directory of licensed professionals all over the US, trained in SMART, Moderation Management, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, as well as treatment centers all over the US and abroad who offer more than just the traditional 12-step method. Just a question about making a jump up in the world of motorsports?
I'm fifteen and have always dreamed about being a NASCAR driver, I race legend cars and late models at Irwindale and I have a question about making a step up towards NASCAR. Now I realize the best way to get to NASCAR is to work your way through NASCAR's feeder series such as the camping world series or ARCA. However I was wondering how one would go from late models at a local short track to the camping wold series or ARCA considering my family does not have the money to participate in those series and none of the local races are televised. I would love to hear from someone who has raced in either the camping wold series or ARCA re/max series and how you got the opportunity to do so, or just anyone who has an idea in regard to how you would get such an opportunity, thank you!
I'm currently in the situation you're in only I'm 18. Over these last few years I've figured out that for teens like you and me whos dads aren't Bill Gates and can stick us in those feeder series, it's nearly impossible to get in at this age and income level, and no level of sponsorship will cover all the costs. You either have to be the next Jeff Gordon or have money of your own. The way I'm attacking the situation is going to college to become a mechanical engineer while racing late models regionally. When I get out I'll have an almost guaranteed job making around 100k a year. More than enough to buy a ride in Camping West/East or ARCA. Teams are starting to look for more seasoned drivers, especially those with technical ability. In fact the other day I saw that one of the people racing ARCA was an engineer with a little road course experience. So just keep plugging away at it and you'll find a way like I have.
