Whether off the line or up the hill, performance-minded drivers demand the most from their vehicles. If that's you, then you know how frustrating it can be to limp up a steep incline as others fly past, or suffer under excruciatingly slow speeds when towing heavy loads. Luckily, with modern technology, this is a burden you no longer have to bear.
The factory settings in your onboard computer are primarily geared towards a broad range of consumers, preventing high-performance users from maximizing their output. Over the years, tech manufacturers have invested heavily in the development and production of aftermarket performance chips, like Dodge chips, Ranger performance chips and the Toyota Tacoma chip, to recover this lost performance easily, affordably and safely.
Beginning with the space race in the 1940s and 1950s, the drive to make technology smaller and lighter gave way to the development of microchips and computers. Engineers and manufacturers across the board imported and adapted this NASA-pioneered technology, incorporating it into hundreds of products that range from toasters and microwaves to automobiles and dishwashers.
Similar to NASA rockets, the system in a car is monitored and controlled by microchips. These microchips control everything from the cabin temperature and radio to the automatic windows and-most importantly-engine performance.
The engineering and resulting output of an automobile has improved greatly within the past century, making small adjustments now more important than ever. That's why drivers who regularly haul heavy loads or tow boats and campers look to the performance chip as a means of recapturing some of the lost performance in a factory-tuned vehicle. Performance chips, like the Honda Accord chip, Pontiac PCM and Chevy chip, don't make drastic changes to the operation of your vehicle. They simply restructure the fuel system to increase efficiency and horsepower, working in unison with other performance-enhancing upgrades like air intakes and custom exhaust systems.
On average, performance chips take 5-10 minutes to program and no more than 20 minutes to install. Available in a couple different types, including chips that plug into your OBD-II port, located under your dashboard, or chips that remain permanently connected to your onboard computer, performance chips make adjustments to your air/fuel ratio, ignition timing and other variables to maximize the output of your vehicle. For example, they may supply more fuel at full throttle at every engine speed or change the spark timing.
In addition, by enriching fuel delivery to key areas, increasing transmission pressure, improving the timing of the pistons, adjusting the shift points and RPMs on a manual transmission, and controlling the vital function of the cooling fan, performance chips promote faster fuel consumption and greater horsepower, adding anywhere from 10 - 20 hp.

Fuel Injector for Proper Air and Fuel Ratio
Car owners nowadays enjoy the pleasure of powerful performance made possible by improved fuel injection systems their vehicles come equipped with. Originally, carburetors were used to pump in fuel into the combustion chamber for power production. These carburetors did not have a “metered” system. That is to say, they did not measure how much fuel or gasoline they fed the combustion chamber with. Thus, the fuel supply tended to be either insufficient or excessive. This fuel system component was therefore replaced with the fuel injector.
The fuel injector was invented to answer the call for an accurate fuel injection to avoid the excessive or insufficient supply of gasoline into the combustion chamber. This auto part is a small electric valve controlled by an electric signal from the car computer. The car computer controls the opening and closing of the fuel injector that lets the fuel flow into the chamber. Because control of the fuel injector principally resides in the car computer, the amount of fuel supplied is neither insufficient or more than the amount required for the combustion of air and fuel. The role of the fuel injector, thus, is essentially important as accuracy in fuel injection is the key to have a better fuel economy and improved overall vehicle performance. Accurate ratio of air and fuel leads to a lot of great benefits to one’s vehicle performance. For one, it results to a maximized combustion, meaning there is no unburned fuel. And if there is no unburned fuel, production of nitrogen oxides can be prevented and there will be a decrease in exhaust emissions.
The fuel injector deals with injecting fuel for combustion and so it also deals with the unwanted particles found in fuel. Thus, over time, this fuel injection component becomes polluted with these tiny particles that managed to get past the fuel filter. When these impurities accumulate, they end up clogging the fuel injector, preventing it from properly closing. This can cause the fuel to continuously flow into the gap, ruining the right ratio of air and fuel, and leading to possible engine part damage as well as unburned fuel. It is therefore the responsibility of car owners to check the fuel injectors their rides are equipped with, from time to time. This also includes having these fuel injectors cleaned when necessary.

problems with 86 bmw with fuel air ratio sensor thing?
I have a 86 bmw 325es and my friend was changing the fuel filter for me. He changed it and found on the fuel like there is some T thing that was cracked and replaced that. We started the car up and it started just fine, but when we started it the car started idling around 2500 rpms. After a minute of that it would start to rev itself up and down between 1000 and 2000 rpm. Well I had to get home so had to drive it home and the car had no acceleration and was just acting as if it was missing or something. While we were there he was messing with the air fuel ratio thing trying to stabilize it or something because that is what he thinks is the cause of it. So I am wondering if that could be the problem then what does it have to be set at? And if not, what could be the problem?
I just got a new mass air flow sensor today. Still the problem is there so it is not that.
